Hey Everyone! :D

I was just wondering if anyone could list out the advantages and disadvantages of applying somewhere ED versus RD. From what I've learned so far, ED generally has a higher acceptance percentage, but it's a myth that it's easier to get in when applying early. Also, ED is binding and the applicants are much more qualified.

With RD, even though it's a bigger applicant pool, is it easier to stand out among the not-so-strong applications? Additionally, RD is good because first semester senior year can boost GPAs.

Any comments are welcomed and appreciated! Thanks! :D

One obvious advantage of RD is that you will be able to compare financial aid packages. That may be important to your family.

It really depends on the specific school. Some highly selective schools will give a strong admissions tip for legacies (applicants with a parent who is an alum), but only if the applicant applies ED. Other schools will have a much higher ED admissions rate over RD because they want to lock in students early on.

If you are utterly in love with one specific school and you don’t need to hunt down the best financial aid offer possible then go for ED. Otherwise, stick with RD.
