Early Decison Columbia Early Action Chicago

I am interested in doing Early Decision at Columbia and Early Action at University of Chicago. Since University of Chicago offer the least restricted EA, I should be able to do this, right? I know that if I EA to Yale, I wouldn't be able to ED to anywhereelse. Can someone please tell me if I could do this, because my counserlor wasn't sure. Thanks. Any advise on getting into Columbia is also appreciated, along with what you think of the campus.

On scale of binding and restriction, ED > SCEA (Single Choice Early Action) > EA > RD

Columbia is ED. University of Chicago is EA. So if you apply to Columbia ED, you CAN NOT apply to any other PRIVATE institution until the ED results are made ~mid-December. However, if you EA U of C, you can apply to other NON-RESTRICTIVE early action programs.

For tips, I would recommend solid GPA (4.0), great ACT and SAT scores (34+, 2300+), SAT Subject Scores (770+ in 2-3 subjects), good ecs, and good awards!

i currently go to columbia, so if you need any other advice or help, let me know!

Norvasc is incorrect. Columbias website says you can apply to another nonrestrictive EA school (state schools usually), but they “prefer you don’t” only because you have to retract that application if you get in to Columbia. I’m guessing this is too late though haha

Norvasc is essentially correct on the necessary scores @Columbia. However, a slight modification , IMHO,the SATs could be “lower” to having the majority in the 740s-750s, maybe one 720, and a 760 ( haha, this is stratospheric already) class rank ok for top 2-3%, not nec valedictorian…and the “good EC’s” actually should be read as “EC’s that the Adcomm @ CC crave”… this probably means that being co captain of the ping pong team is NOT gonna make 'em go nuts…on the other hand, if you’re privately studying music, preferably At Manhattan School of Music, or Juillard,or have works of art , publicly performed dance, published on Greek Lit, something that clicks with the New York /Columbian chic, then, yep , there’s a chance. 'Course, I could be completely wrong <disclaimer>!</disclaimer>
