Likely Letters?

Are these the Winks? My girlfriend works in the admissions office and she said they send out Winks.

Cool, I got one of these letters too! Totally unexpected. And they are offering me $30,000 (over four years) of merit aid, in addition to need-based aid! :)

I don't know about "Winks" though. ;)

EH...sorry. These Wink things are specifically for multi-cultural kids and haven't been sent out yet! Phew wipes forehead

CONGRATS for everyone else though! I hope I get to see you all at admitted students weekend! crosses fingers

I got my acceptance letter today, too!!!

My parents are barred from opening any of my college mail, but my dad saw through the envelope and was able to see the significant merit aid amount before I got home to open the letter. This, combined with my Wellesley likely letter I received last week, is making me a bit more hopeful for my other colleges come April!

I haven't visited yet, either, but I'm hoping to go to one of the open house dates in April, probably the 14th.

My D found a "congrats" letter at home today too, along with a nice chunk of merit money. She went to Grinnell twice in 2005, but still has lots of questions!

Mimeea:

Congratulations! Grinnell with $7,500 a year in merit money is fantastic. Heck, Grinnell without the merit money is fantastic!

interesteddad, I believe it was Lord Asquith who stated s/he will be receive $30,000 merit aid over four years. :)

Mimeea, it sounds, too, like you're going to be accepted to MHC! (related to the note sent to you about how her admissions officer liked your essay) Wow, how are you going to make a choice?!

Do any international student got accepted? I am rather nervous. Hope I will get accepted soon.....GRINNELL.....GRINNELL

It is definitely going to be a hard decision! I have only gotten to visit one of the colleges I've applied to, so far (Scripps). Being on the west coast, with the time and money it takes to visit the other colleges I applied to (all on the east coast & Grinnell, of course!), I will only have the chance to visit the colleges I'm accepted to on their open campus days. I'm hoping that this very short time frame will be enough to get a well-founded first impression of the atmospheres and campuses. Hopefully. Not only Grinnell, Wellesley, & MHC, but potentially Bryn Mawr, Smith, Middlebury, & Bowdoin if admitted. I'm not sure how realistic this is!

Grinnell's merit aid is awesome! I actually received 10k a year. I'm not sure about the freshman negative fifteen, though. I'm really hoping the food improves with the new dining hall. When is it supposed to open?

The new dining hall is gonna open this coming fall!!! I can't wait class of 2010

What does "multi-cultural kids" mean? Are they for intls?

i applied as an international and got a letter today. it was a few days late, though, so yours might still be plodding around out there.

I don't know about the Freshman 15 - supposedly there's an excellent bakery right near campus.

I was lucky. I had a glandular problem which made me lose 15 pounds my freshman year. And, I still wonder where it came from. Dr ordered a gallon of ice cream a day to keep weight on.

Food facts at Grinnell: it is better than it used to be. And, the diet of today's students drastically differs from my generation's. You have about 50% vegetarians and over 20% vegans on campus -- or these are the numbers thrown about. So . . . much better vegetables than the old days.

You also have many plans for food -- in my day it was pay for three squares or nothing. You can tweak the diet plan accordingly.

Long harsh winters make most people gain -- but the new gym has a ton of exercise equipment and there really is no excuse for not using one of the newest facilities on the campus.

BTW The bakery is good.

wait is it usually a gain of 15 pounds, and for grinnell they reversed it because of the bad food? confused...

grendel88:

Congratulations!
Where do you live? I also applied as an i'tl student and hope to get a letter soon.

yeah I just got my letter yestderday, totally surprised... grinnell was one of my safeties but it's all good, congrats to everyone else!

Grinnell is your safety with a 2060 SAT, 33 ACT?

Sounds more like a match.

The middle 50% of Grinnell has:
SAT Reasoning Verbal: 640 - 750
SAT Reasoning Math: 640 - 730
ACT Composite: 29 - 33

Either way, she/he got a likely letter, so congrats, collegeboundkorean.

True. And I'm not trying to take that away. I'm just saying that calling it a "safety" is a stretch for top 15 LAC. And that goes for anybody.

A safety is something you call a much lower ranked LAC or a state college--at least it would be for me. Those schools are a sure thing. I'm sure there are people in the middle 50% range SAT/ACT of Grinnell who have not been accepted.
