Hey!

I'm applying to University of Michigan LSA and I wasn't sure if I should apply early decision or regular decision. My main issue is that my ACT isn't so good (27) so I'm retaking in December (missed October deadline :( but I didn't know if I should apply w/ the 27 or apply after I've retaken so it's (probably) higher. Any advice would be awesome! :)

Michigan has Early Action (non-binding), not Early Decision. At any rate, are you in-state? Is your unweighed GPA over 3.9? Have you taken many AP classes? Do you have impressive ECs? If the answers to all those questions is yes, it may be worth applying EA. On the other hand, if many of your answers to the questions above are no, then applying EA could be pointless.

Sorry, I don’t know why I said early decision -_- but yes I"m in state and my GPA is unweighted- my old school didn’t’ offer any AP’s but I just transferred and I’m taking AP Government, and English, and I’m taking the AP Latin test (studying on my own since I took latin at my old school for 3 years).

EC’s are things like: theater, piano, (teaching piano now), track (not at school I compete with other paralytics/amputees) where I’ve qualified for Nationals 2 times, debate team, mock trial, volunteering as a tutor for younger kids every day after school, I’m the piano/organ/violin player at my church, and volunteer teacher assistant at their summer school program.

I would suggest to apply EA if you have you are confident with your essays. UMich would mostly defer those not accepted in EA and you can submit later scores and transcripts before the admission decision anyway. Nevertheless, applying RD would allow you more time to work on the essays and have a better perception of your own credential. Moreover, ACT 27 would likely make you deferred if apply EA.

Early never hurts
