What is it?

“early write” can also be called a “likely letter” or “love letter” along with lots of other references, some official, most not, some clean, some not…

it means that the college or univ is HINTING that you’re accepted, but HS counselors have seen them issued, and the student is still denied…

if you get a “likely letter” that hints at admission, or says you’re among our strongest candidates, you’re PROBABLY in, but don’t bet the farm…

IF they are inviting you to a PREVIEW weekend or preview day, then MOST LIKELY, you’ve already been admitted, they just haven’t told you yet

IF you get a likely letter, just relax a LITTLE, and hopt the YES comes…

IF you get an invitation to a preview day, then CALL the director of admission, and ask if you’ve been admitted, before you commit to coming to visit… they’ll probably confirm over the phone…

good luck…

I received an Early Write and the opening lines actually say “I’m delighted to offer you admission. Congratulations!” Likely letters are hints at admission, as the person above me said, but an Early Write is an actual acceptance letter. They even go on to explain that if we’re wondering why we’ve heard so early it’s because they feel so strongly about candidacy that they’ve included you in a small number of applicants to receive early word of acceptance.

In a sense, it does the same job as a likely letter by letting “top candidates” know, “We want YOU” and hopefully moving the college up in the applicant’s mind.
