one of them i've gone to school with for 14 years, and he said he'd come unless he got into brown (he got deferred) or possibly yale or princeton...but still! he might come!

I have a 1560 and the IB equivalent of "mostly As," which would make me about a 1.5... but my school doesn't rank, so I don't have the "top x%" to put my grades into context.

I'm 1520, mostly / many As (Indian grades converted to American, according to Wikipedia), top 10% that would make me.. a 2? 1.5? 2.5? I'm not sure how my grades will be converted.

the rating is probably less than half of the equation...being a 1 wouldn't make you an automatic accept, and not being a 1 wouldn't make you an automatic reject...it's very subjective

From Williams board about Williams early writes:

"If a high school has more than one applicant, and all are not considered for receiving early writes, Williams won't send one to any of the students -- all will be notified at the same time (by April 1st)."

i am confused about this point system thing.

so 4's and 5's are inadmissiable.

does that mean like...only a very tiny fraction of 3's get in
slightly more 2.5's
more 2's
more 1.5's
most 1's

it sort of seems to me that by assigning a point system on gpa, test scores, and other tangibles that the adcom is being a little...err shallow?

There are guidelines in the system for how the numeric ratings are assigned but the intangible is the essays. That's why it's still a guessing game.
