Awards = competition. So participate in a competitive activity that you enjoy. If you aren’t athletically inclined, I recommend competitive speech/debate (awesome activity, I have an award from state), the AMC/AIME/USAMO (you have to be really good for the latter), and Trigstar. Research competitions like Siemens or Intel look great, but I’m not quite sure how you get started with these.

FBLA/DECA have the easiest competition I know of. The people in those organizations don’t usually seem… academically oriented. I joined it for giggles, didn’t study for my events at all and got to be state champion in both FBLA and DECA. I even got 8th at FBLA nationals for Economics, even though I hadn’t even touched my economics book in around 6 months.

does anyone know of any good writing competitions? are the scholastic ones impressive? thanks

I agree with scivener, since one of my stronger points lie in english, i’m looking for a good writing or english competition.

Does anyone know any chinese or french competitions?

Please let me know! Thank you so much.

Always try local competitions first. There are many held by local organizations and rotary clubs for essays, speeches, etc…

If you are good at those, then look for something bigger.
