I am an out of state student going to San Diego State next year as a freshman, and want to earn in state for my second year. Did anyone do this, and how did you do it. Your help would be greatly appricatied!

I think for anyone to be considered as a California resident, they must live in California for more than a year...

you have to renounce your citizenship in another state and establish citizenship in California.. which would initially mean getting a CA driver's licence/ID card, registering vehicle in CA, paying taxes, establishing residence aside from university given housing

you must also check with the school for their residency determination date.
for example, to be considered a resident for fall 2009 a student must have been in CA since july 2008 or possibly even earlier

Are you sure all this applies to SDSU? and have you done it. I am working on everything that the list told me to do, but how did you pay for tution without your parents help. I am sure i can complete what was on the list, but the lady i talked to on the phone was very discouraging about even applying

My parents moved to California with me. My answer is not SDSU specific but rather the general guideline that California Colleges have.

you for sure have to live for a year before the deadline. this year is was sept 20th. you need to get all your paperwork transferred and live here. they weren't very strict on it, but if they check and you don't have proof you'll prob be DQd. I moved down a year early before school. they put me as resident... but i also paid CA taxes...
