It seems as though there have been a significant amount of earthquakes this year. Yesterday there was a 7.0 earthquake in Japan, and now there was just an 8.8 earthquake in Chile. Luckily both occurred during the morning when most people weren't awake, but the situations are unfortunate.

Coastal Chile has a history of deadly earthquakes, according to the USGS. Since 1973, there have been 13 quakes of magnitude 7.0 or higher.

Saturday's epicenter was just a few miles north of the largest earthquake recorded in the world: a magnitude 9.5 quake in May 1960 that killed 1,655 and unleashed a tsunami that crossed the Pacific and destroyed much of the Hilo Bay area of Hawaii.

I feel bad for Chile but I heard it was at least in a semi-unpopulated area. (This was early though- it might have changed.) I’m worried about the Tsunami in Hawaii.

YES, what the h is going on? & nj got like 3 feet of snow this year. not trying to be funny, but we got like 2 inches last year. the weather seems to be all sorts of out of whack.

yea its weird like wasn’t it snowing in all the states 2 weeks ago even florida, and there’s all these earthquakes kinda sounds like the end is near.

OK this is ridiculous, I understand that Global Warming is a hot button issue but seriously COME ON Climate Change is about changes in the atmophere. Earthquakes are geological phonomena NOT extreme weather. There is no way that global warming can cause more earthquakes… Hurricanes maybe… Earthquakes no.

Some weirdo, on the news the other day, was swearing up and down that he’s the “anti-Christ” and he’s got people tattooing “666” on themselves. He also claimed he was the reason for the earthquakes and so forth.

I don’t think an 8.8 earthquake is really possible in CA, and the preparedness is probably much better here too. I’m not sure how much of threat a tsunami would be in Norcal, but down here I don’t think it could do much.
