I hear that there are 6 different colleges at UCSD, and im asking simply out of curiosity. Are some colleges easier to get into than others? I heard revell is hard and few people apply, so does that mean its easier to get into? If so, what are the easiest and hardest?

It doesn’t work that way. You rank the colleges and ucsd ranks you then it depends on others you get pick base on your score(there used to be a score ).
Hardest to get into is Muir

@DrGoogle oh ok, so however you rank them, you cant increase your chance of getting into UCSD correct?

That’s correct. Ucsd doesn’t admit by major either. If you rank Muir first and sixth last, when you are in the bottom you get in sixth. If you rank sixth first and Muir last for example, you get in sixth first if you are in the top students. Since Muir is ranked last in your list you won’t get Muir even if you are the bottom of the pile.

Ok the last sentence should read since you rank Muir last you won’t get Muir because others will get Muir.

@DrGoogle what? so that means that the way you rank the schools DOES matter. you said if u put sixth last and muir first, then if im in the bottom pile of students, then ill get into sixth. if i put sixth first and muir last and i get rejected from sixth, then i wont get into muir cause i put it last and its more competitive. so wouldnt it make more sense to put sixth last, if i want to increase my chances of getting in? if i put sixth first and i get rejected then i have no chance of geting into muir cause i put it last. however if i put sixth last and muir first, and i get rejected from muir, i still have a chance of getting into sixth. thats what i got from what you said. sorry, but can you please clarify?

Admission to UCSD does not at all depend on what college you choose. You will get in to your desired college (which has minor additional requirements, a “culture” and a geographic location) if you are ranked high. If you are ranked low, you will get a lower priority in assigning college. The most popular college will be filled up first (obviously). If your first choice is the least popular college and you have a high ranking, you will get that one. If your first choice is the most popular college and you have a low ranking, you may not get your first choice. If you have a high ranking you will. All of the colleges are great. Choose based on its values, purpose, and culture. You will get into one. Think of it as a two-step housing assignment process. If you are accepted you will then get a housing assignment. At UCSD, they first place you in one of six geographical areas (which come with a “culture” and a few course requirements), and then a specific dorm within that college. It has NOTHING to do with admissions.

@ItsJustSchool thanks!

Exactly because Muir is popular. Even if you put Muir last, Muir would be somebody’s first. So it won’t increase your chance if you put Muir last. I posted it late so it was unclear when I’m half asleep. But the answer is no it doesn’t help you.

No it doesn’t increase your chance of getting in if you put sixth last. You either get in or not get in and then UCSD looks at your list of colleges and pick the college base on your ranking and how others rank the colleges.

Why is Muir more popular than others, and Sixth less popular than others?
