If an application is due on 1/1, does that mean by midnight on 1/1 by THEIR midnight, or MY midnight?

If I'm on the West Coast, applying to an East Coast school, do I have to hit the submit button by 9:00 p.m. then? Or do I still have until 11:59 p.m.?

And vice versa:
If I'm on the East Coast applying to a West Coast school and application is due by 11:59p.m. on 1/1, do I have until 2:59a.m? Or is it still by my 11:59p.m. on 1/1, which would be 8:59 on the West Coast?

I know I'm not the only one curious about this.

oh my god. I didn't know it had to be in by midnight EST! Some of my apps were turned in after 10 pm PST. Should I call the colleges to let them know? The common app still let me submit all of them, but not all have been shown to be downloaded yet. I paid the application fee by the deadline, I just didn't submit my application right away. Also on some of my apps it shows my application having been downloaded but not my supplement. Is this because I submitted my supplement later? Will they not look at my application because of my supplement? HELP PLEASE! I'm freaking out right now.

The rules people are stating here are not actual rules; commonapp.org bases its deadlines on EST, but allows colleges to set their own specific deadlines, which may or may not be in a different time zone and may or may not be padded to allow a grace period of minutes or hours.

If commonapp.org allowed you to submit the application (instead of bouncing it with a message that the deadline has passed), you got it in soon enough.

Thanks geek_mom! I just checked the status of my applications today and they all showed that they were downloaded. Hopefully this means I'm in the clear! :)

I submitted my app before midnight PST to Pomona (30 minutes into 1/3 though for the common app), but it hasn't been downloaded yet. I assume this is possibly because it's the weekend. If it hasn't been downloaded by Monday, should I call?

Yeah, relax. :) I can tell you that geek_son applied to Harvey Mudd on a Saturday, and his app wasn't downloaded until the following Monday. Since the Claremonts seem to share some computing functions (e.g., Scripps computers handle admissions event registrations for all 5 C's), this may give you some reassurance.
