East Coast LACs for A/B student

My daughter wants to expand her list to include more East Coast LACs. Although she has a 3.8+ GPA (no weighting at her school), she tests poorly on standardized tests (I'd mention her PSAT scores, but I can't even remember what they were...poor enough for me to want to forget them!)

What she is looking for:
Strong vocal music program and strong political science and/or communications departments

Opportunities for internships in the political/advocacy arena

Small to mid-size school (under 6000?)

Opportunities in theatre for non-majors would be a definite plus

Her current ECs are all theatre and music related and will be the closest thing she has to a "hook", although they're all at a local/state level.

What Mom is looking for :) :
Because of ongoing medical concerns, proximity to good medical facilities

Within 5-6 hours driving time of Cape Cod (we have family there, and this goes hand-in-hand with my concerns about her medical issues...my daughter would not feel this is a priority at all!)

If it helps at all, the non-eastern schools currently on her list include Lawrence University (WI), Willamette (OR), Otterbein (OH), and Muhlenberg (PA)...Ithaca is on her list as a school she needs to research further.

Bowdoin? I'm pretty sure they don't require SAT scores.

Mt holoyoke doesn't require SAT scores and is in a 5 college consortium with smith, amherst,u mass- and hampshire

Connecticut College, Holy Cross, Trinity, Sarah Lawrence, Bard, Skidmore, Emerson and Brandeis for starters.

Goucher has a very active theater program and lots of internship opportunities because it is fairly close to D.C. (Baltimore). I'd also take a look at Skidmore for her if she is into theater. Wheaton College in Mass. would be another one to consider.

Muhlenberg in Allentown PA. Good theater, walking distance to a good hospital.

Garland, I had to laugh. If you needed a really good hospital, you might not be able to walk there!! That presents a new criteria for selecting a college though, and in the case of my Wild Child, perhaps an important one.

Holy Cross seems like a very good fit-strong liberal arts school, 2 hours from Cape Cod and Holy Cross is located in same city as UMass Med Center. Also long established political internships-some supported by HC grad Chris Matthews of Hardball FAME.

Holy Cross, Clark, Muhlenburg, Dickinson

Is carnegie-mellon close enough? Their theater departments are awesome. And Pittsburgh has GREAT hospitals…

Muhlenberg is a great school for you to consider but may be a reach.

Um- this is a REALLY old thread.
