Our son, a second year music major, just put in an application for EMF for this summer. He'll audition in NYC in Feb. I don't know much about it and it IS big $$$$, at least to us!

Has anyone here attended? I've browsed their website and it seems wonderful. Any info is appreciated.

Our son attended EMF summers 2004 and 2005. He loved it. The program has two orchestras and they perform weekly during the festival. They are of equal quality...two different conductors. DS, a trumpet player, also played in a brass ensemble and a brass and percussion ensemble, and a band (which did 4th of July favorites...an old fashioned band concert). Students have private lessons twice weekly in addition to their ensemble practices and chamber music coachings. The students live in the dorms at Guilford College where the festival is held. It is within easy walking distance of some shops, grocery store and restaurants. The price is on par with other music festivals of its type. DS got a small scholarship both summers based on his audition. You can send me a PM and I'd be glad to answer any specific questions. DS would go back...but he's 21 this year, and the festival accepts students 20 and under (although we have heard that occasionally they will accept older students...).

thumper1-
Thanks so much for the specifics. Our son is also a brass player and would love the band especially. He plays in one of those 'old fashioned' concert bands each summer. It is great fun with experienced musicians. Glad to hear EMF was so positive for your son. I hope our DS qualifies for even a small scholarship.
These music kids are very expensive!
