The same question was asked before, but the discussion for that post was in 2008, so professors and classes have changed quite a bit. What are some of the easier classes to take as a freshman at Duke?
Tip from a junior: don’t obsess about grades your freshman year. Being a student at Duke affords you the rare opportunity to take a diverse range of classes ranging from the history of chinese medicine to the politics of Hamilton the musical. Don’t be afraid to take a class just because you’re afraid you won’t be able to get an A. Duke is more than just a corporate finishing school for Wall Street and medical school; it’s a world class undergraduate institution with deep roots in the liberal arts where you are privileged enough to truly develop and grow as a student among the nation’s brightest, so don’t waste your opportunity.
But if you really want to know, rate my professor is pretty useful. Although as a freshman, all the so called “easiest” classes will probably he filled up by the time you register.
Psychology
Sociology
Interdisciplinary courses
I second ratemyprofessors, though it isn’t full-proof. I avoided taking some classes freshman year because some profs had bad scores then I took those classes later and loved them.
Be more specific: are you looking for easy NS, QS, SS, FL? What exactly do you need? I can tell you a 400-level psych course with a certain prof is the easiest class I’ve ever taken but it would be useless to you if you don’t need it for any reqs/aren’t a psych major (plus you’d need pre-reqs for that class anyways).
