Revan: The trick is to know your limits.
Adi: I know my limit...................but i can break it. :p

It certainly is a different culture here. While there is a lot of drinking in highschool, the US is not nearly as tolerant as much of the rest of the world, especially with kids. I think that's part of the reason some people go way over the line in college.

Beers are smaller here - around 350 ml and vary widely in alcohol content...somewhere in the range of 3-6%, with exceptions. You can get great beer here, domestic and import...

...but in college, most beer consumed is from kegs at parties, so bottle size doesn't really matter. Unfortunately, it's usually pretty dismal beer (in my opinion), but then I think Budweiser is swill while lots of people I know love it.

I think I heard somewhere that Day of 1000 Beers doesn't happen anymore. I never did participated, but friends did, and as I remember it was a fairly informal deal...once a year 40 people agreed to get together and drink 24 cans of Budweiser followed by a Guinness Stout. It became a minor spectator sport. I don't know the history of it or any more significance than that.

I remember traveling through Europe after graduation, finding really cheap Pilsner Urquell in large bottles at something absurd like 12% alcohol (I may be exaggerating, but heck, it's a story about beer.) I just kept thinking, how'd they get a whole six-pack into one bottle? :)

Thanks for all the information. Don't worry about sounding like lecturing.

oh, age isn't a big deal... when you're goign to be 22 entering as a freshman, haha Unnofficial oldest entering Freshman at Princeton, Ever

Ah, not so, well-aged Harv...There was a 25 year old freshman in my class that I know of, and I'm SURE there have been much older frosh.

same in france revan. no legal age for drinking. a 12 year old kid can get into a bar. which is not a good thing... but on the other hand, 21 is ridiculous IMO.

Well, a small correction here:

what revan said is a bit subtle: in romania you can't buy alcohol until you're 18, so that (theoretically) rules out bars, but there's no law that specifically forbids consuming (in family, for example), or anywhere you "find" some. So, the spirit of the law is to forbid it and not be puritan about it, but the real situation is that even less than that is enforced...

works with me though :D , it's just tough enough to keep 12 year olds away from the pest.. until they are older and more capable of reasoning what's good and bad.... (yea... sure!! :p)

well sonavagun... I guess I'll have to take the title for class of '09
