do you think that kids who strive for perfection (ie good grades, good extracurricular activities, ivy league acceptance) have a bit of a tendency for bulimia/ anorexia?

I do believe those components are common in the reason for some of those disorders. After all, with such high expectations, it’s likely that one will be faced with failure, which sometimes leads people to those disorders. Overall, I just feel sympathetic towards people like that:/

Yes. Most people who are bulimic/anorexic are perfectionists in other areas of their lives (ie perfectly organized rooms, perfect 4.0, etc). There is also a rather high rate of OCD with bulimics/anorexics.

mhm, yeah i think so, too.
and wartsandall: i’m sorry to hear that, but i take it that you’re healed now, right?

i’ve known someone who’s had an ED and her mentality (the way she viewed herself/ food/ success) was just unhealthy :/

^Yes, I’m fine:) Luckily she moved away and my life got back in check:) It’s extremely difficult to overcome though. Just as a general offer, if anyone ever needs someone to talk to regarding this issue, let me know:)

I also think low self-esteem attributes to it. It did with me anyway.
