EC dilemma

I am a rising sophomore, and I was on the track team this year. However, I did badly in the sport. Our coach quit at the last minute, and I am not sure if I would be able to continue track, as the team is falling apart.
I am thinking of joining Forensics in place of track, while I still have time to commit a few years to it. I am afraid that there will be no track team after this year, or that I won't meet a new coach's requirements. I would hate to waste my time on the track team if I can't do it for all four years.
So, would being a member of the track team be beneficial to me since I do not excel in it? Should I stick with it, or go to something new?

P.S. Grades are my strongpoint, and I hope to attend an Ivy-League school.

Unless you are winning competitions in track, and there is a possibility of you being recruited, I don't think it's worth the time investment. Especially if the coaches won't be as committed as you. There are many things that you can do and enjoy that look better on college applications.

Thank you! I really needed an honest opinion! Anyone else?

hey! my sophomore year, i started forensics and it was so great and so EASY to excell at. i recommend doing this in place of track b/c it really doesnt require much time but u could get lots of awards and stuff

bump..... bump

well it wouldn't be a bad idea to continue doing track for as long as possible that way you show commitment...or...
in your college essay you can explain that your school's track program was falling apart so you were unable to pursue your desire to be on the track team

Just because you don't excel in a sport doesn't mean that it is useless to participate in it! There was a girl on our tennis team, and she wasn't one of the best players on the team at all, but she's going to Stanford. Now, if you really don't like track, don't do it. But even if you're not great at track but enjoy it, keep doing it!

If you enjoyed track, then continue it even if it means that you have to do a lot of organizing and activism to have the team continue. If you'd like foresics better, then do that.

What "works" for getting into college is pursuing what you love with a passion, and then finding colleges that fit the person that you've developed into.

forsensic speech and debate > track

in terms of reputation, and opportunities to win awards.

Thanks so much! I am thinking of doing forensics, and only outdoor track.... as long as that doesn't interfere with my studying schedule. I want to maintain my 98 average.

Do what you truly like. Don't do it for college, track is awesome whether you are winning or whether you like to feel good about your body.

bump..... bump.....

If you feel like you're wasting your time in track, then don't do it. Participate in activities you like doing.

Whichever's the most fun, IMO.

What Forensics event interests you the most?

Track is awesome. But if you don't really like it, then don't waste anyone else's time.
