Econ 1 and Econ 100A/B same semester doable?

Hello fellow bears, I am taking UGBA 10 fall semester and want to declare economic as a major after spring in freshman year. I just realized I'm not exempted from Econ 1 as I got a 4 for AP Micro and 5 for AP Macro.

Just wondering if its possible to take Econ 1 and Econ 100A/B in the same semester in spring freshman year?

No Econ 1 is a prerequisite for Econ 100A and B. You also have no reason to take that much Econ in one semester… besides, what if you find out Econ’s not really the thing you want to do? Just take Econ 1 in and try out some other stuff in Spring. That’s what a lot of people do.

You can’t really declare for Econ in the Spring of your freshman year even if you will complete all the pre-reqs for the major by that semester. I tried doing that last Spring but was informed by the Econ advisor that:

“we would like to wait until after fall semester before we make a decision on your admissions status so that we have another semester worth of grades to review…this request is being made of all freshmen who applied to the major during spring semester – we are not worried about your grades or your preparation for the major, but we prefer that students have three semesters of UC Berkeley coursework completed before being admitted to the major. In our experience, this allows students the time to explore the major and the university, and to make sure you have found the right fit for your academic pursuits.”
