Econ 101 & 102

Econ 101 is not a joke. Only 25% get As, 50% get Cs and Ds. Sound like a joke to you?

"Econ 101 is not a joke. Only 25% get As, 50% get Cs and Ds. Sound like a joke to you? "

that does not speak to teaching quality, which is a joke, at least for the section I was in.

Yes I can back that up too. My roommate who’s actually a REAL engineering major (Material Science and Engineering) ended up with a B in that class, even though he aced Calc 2, 3, 4 and hard engineering classes.

But in general, I agree - the Econ department at UM sucks. You’d be much better of jobs wise if you go to Ross.

I was not referring to teaching quality, I said “ECON 101 is not a joke.”
Teaching quality depends on your professor (just like any other course in America).

"Econ 101 is not a joke. Only 25% get As, 50% get Cs and Ds. Sound like a joke to you? "

you sure? Do you want me to pull up the curve from ctools for fall 2007? because i sure did not see 50% get C and D

That was from summer term.

Please pull up the curve from ctools, Bearcats.

Econ 101 may not have been a joke for you, but it was for me. I had like 98% before the curve, which was huge, btw… so… it really depends on the person.

25% get A’s? That’s so high… I wish all of my classes had such generous grading!

"That was from summer term. Do you want me to whip out my boyfriends dick for you? "
good. remember to cook it so i can feed my dog.

Fall 2007 Sedo Econ 101 Curve (He sent out this whole excel file with a semi-scrambled UMID and resepective grade. I tallied it up with a macro)

A range: ~32%
B range: ~43%
C range and below: ~ 25%

ECON 101 was so hard for me! I got a C+!

so bottom line: in your opinion, should i take Econ 101 at my community college and skip out on the class at U of M, or wait to take it at U of M?

i’d usually like to stay out of these meaningless and annoying tangents bearcats always brings up through his posts, but this is flat out wrong. no good boutique only recruits wharton. though there are some pe funds that only recruit harvard/wharton, every elite banking boutique interviewed ross kids this year for internships.

dude, its cool that you want to go into quant finance, but how exactly does that tangent at all address the op’s concerns? stop your annoying ■■■■■■■■.

edit: and to address op’s concern: i jumped right into econ 401 as a freshman and dont feel like i missed out at all by not taking 101 at umich (had ap credit). you’re probably fine staying at the cc.

Winter 2008 Econ 102 Curve (as summary statistics for an announcement)
Summary Statistics:

A Range (A+, A, A-): 29%
B Range (B+, B, B-): 41%
C Range (C+, C, C-): 27%
D Range (D+, D, D-): 2.5%

32% get A’s!?!??!?!!?

Oh, I’m sorry that it was hard for you… I guess econ is just one thing that comes naturally to me (to balance out the things I’m bad at, hee hee).

I thought Econ 101 was fine here, in terms of teaching.
I thought Econ 102 was as well, mainly because my GSIs all kicked A$*… although I do think that 102 was harder than 101, simply because of all of the outdated models we had to learn (like Solow and Malthusian… ew)

And I got a B- after going to my teacher’s office hour every week! I even cooked food for her and did stuff but the class was just challenging.

I would say take it in college! It will be an experience. You will get to take it with other aspiring freshman like yourself.

“how exactly does that tangent at all address the op’s concerns?”

I was talking about econ first before someone chimed in with irrelevant comments aiming at me.

For 401 and 402, I’m 100% sure that the median grade is B-. That means 50% get B- or below.

You could take them at UMich over the summer! The class sizes are much smaller…

"I’m 100% sure that the median grade is B-. That means 50% get B- or below. "

This statement FAIL logically unless only 1 person gets a B- in the entire class.

or the median grade is exactly at the VERY TOP of B-, otherwise, the logic is wrong.
