wait, you can take classes at u of m over the summer???
sorry, this must be obvious somehow but i did not think of this at all.
i need to do this… i hope the classes haven’t started already!

Summer Term! Look it up.

[LSA Course Guide](http://www.lsa.umich.edu/cg/cg_detail.aspx?content=1750ECON101201&termArray=su_09_1750)

this is the summer term class at LSA course guide

I’m gonna write a proposal to Obama - How to end the recession.

“Get rid of people like bearcats”.

Your’s sincerely,

MightyNick <3.

Amen .

^ Really? I thought you’d tell him to get rid of all business majors and have everyone major in IOE.

this is such a good idea, too bad i live about 1.5 hrs away from ann arbor. and i have an internship this summer too, so it might interfere with my schedule… i still would like to find a way to work it out, though, if i can convince the 'rents to let me go.

haha so what are the classes like? i just finished arguing with my mom that the community college class is a joke because the teacher just reads out of the textbook, and she was like ALL college professors are like that. what are the UM professors like? if i were to take the summer class with only 20 students, would i have the opportunity to ask questions and get into discussions and such?

“I thought you’d tell him to get rid of all business majors”

Sorry if you havn’t been catching up with the news, because he kind of did:

OBAMA: We need young people instead of the, you know, a smart kid coming out of school, instead of wanting to be an investment banker, we need them to decide they want to be an engineer, want to be a scientist, they wan More…t to be a doctor or a teacher, and if we’re rewarding those kinds of things that actually contribute to making things and – and making people’s lives better, that’s going to put our economy on solid footing, we won’t have this bubble and bust economy that we’ve gotten so caught up in for the last several years.

bearcats, do people like you?

What is class like: Well, you show up to class and the professor (depending on the teaching level) has something prepared (outside of the required reading for the course). You can ask questions and get a quick response back from the professor, but don’t expect to get into a deep conversation with the professor during class becuase, like I said, the usually have something prepared that should enlightened you.

Yeah, but bearcats, don’t tell me you’re doing financial engineering so you can be an engineer or teacher. That’s bull()hit. You just want to be where most business majors are but take the longer harder route.

I loved the summer class experience because yes, I had much more individualized interactions with the professor both inside and outside of class. Some courses are taught by GSIs over the summer though… but in my experience, and based on the GSIs I had, this was a great thing. They were amazing. You can always find tenured professors that don’t give a s*%& about teaching, but all of my GSIs went out of their way to help me.

“You just want to be where most business majors are but take the longer harder route”

highly doubt most business majors end up being a quant, or anything as high level and complex as quant. Most of them do pitchbooks and spread comps.

Guys, it’s hard to keep track of all the posts and relevant responses, lol. How about we grow up and just drop the argument, with no snide closing comments? :)

But they end up being more social and getting more girls than engineers. Anyways, that’s besides the point.

Why don’t you do math instead? A lot of business majors also minor/double major with math and end up being in quant finance.

well I cant do EGL with math. With IOE, I can do EGL, which essentially give you a program run by both Ross and COE, a career service for a very small group of people, with superior career placement, industry pull and exposure to both quant and business/finance field. It’s also easier to come out jobless as a math major than an engineering major (especially EGL), so that’s another reason

@MightNick

oops soory about the extra post.
“But they end up being more social and getting more girls than engineers. Anyways, that’s besides the point.”

If its beside the point, then why do you continue to bring it up. You say this as if the main reason to choose your major should be based on how many girls you have the potential to get. It actually all boils down to confidence, not enviroment. Just because business schools have more girls does not mean they will all come flocking to you. The students who pick business because of girls are the ones lacking the confidence. And whats this about engineers not being social? One of the most important parts of engineering is working with others, which is why group projects are so heavily integrated into the course work. If you really think about it, the business major is more likely to be the one alone at a computer typing info into a chart.

“Why the hell would you torture yourself on North campus taking harder courses (material wise) only to get the same or less paying jobs?”

OF COURSE! Because the reason you choose to major in one thing over another should be because of the money. Not because you like to do it. Not because it will make you better. Not because it fulfills you. Na…those things are not important.

Sounds like you need a girlfriend.
Actually, your starting to sound like the one who needs a girlfriend.

Please stop flaming engineers because they choose to take the harder road. You dont have the right. And theres plenty of engineers who are more social and get more girls than you. After all, isnt that the most important thing? Seriously, your no better than bearcats.

^

If you read any of the posts made by Bearcats, he is always complaining about everything being a joke. He criticizes everything and everyone.

MightyNick was trying to make a point using those facts. Any educated person would see that.

In essence, MightyNick is saying Bearcats needs to get off these forums and get a life, and I, kind of agree with that. :)

mjohns142, you are a young little grasshopper, you have much to learn.

mjohns you took my post way too seriously. I was just poking fun at bearcats.

Amen.

Just take Econ 101 & 102 at Michigan. They are not that hard…
