Econ 101 and CTOPS

I am in CTOPS June 7, 8. Looking at the courses I want, ECON 101 is shown as CLOSED (all four sections). Does this mean that as a freshman, I have no chance of taking it in the fall? Or, have certain number of seats blocked for freshman and will be released during CTOPS? Anyone know / have any thoughts? Thanks.

There should definitely be seats available. Most likely, it is just says closed to prevent uppeclassmen from registering for it.

Okay... Last time I checked, if a class is listed as closed, then it's definitely closed. Sorry to say UNC does not prevent upperclassmen from registering for classes so that freshmen can get the classes they want. Freshmen get last pick of classes as it stands now, so when you go to CTOPS you should make sure the classes you want are still open. The only classes that are semi-reserved are the first year seminars. I forget the exact details, but in order to give all CTOPS students the same opportunity, I think it's like one student per FYS, per CTOPS session.

but all the calc classes are closed and chem second level. Are they all really closed? It seems like those would be freshman classes

Can we register for our classes now?I thought we do all these during our CTOPS?I don't have any idea of what courses I'll be taking yet!!

You register in groups of about 10, during CTOPS, in a room in the student union....and they'll be very strict about restricting you to your exact assigned time window. (No sneaking in early... ;) )

Not sure...everyone may be looking at the following link:

<a href="http://www.ais.unc.edu/sis/clsched/csbhome.html%5B/url%5D">http://www.ais.unc.edu/sis/clsched/csbhome.html</a></p>

or they may be checking the courses at my.unc.edu.

Currently the only students who should have access to registration are upperclassmen. My d was making some changes to her schedule today in fact.

Also, if you know your major or are interested in a certain area of study, you can download the academic worksheet for that major, which will give you a good starting point for planning a schedule...

<a href="http://advising.unc.edu/new-curriculum-worksheets%5B/url%5D">http://advising.unc.edu/new-curriculum-worksheets</a></p>

Advisers like it when you take the time to familiarize yourself with these worksheets and all the new curriculum requirements.

Good to know: )

Yeah, Econ is closed and so is english 102 along with about half the classes I wanted to take and all of my alternates. I went to the first CTOPS and I didn't even end up with all the classes I want. I was told chem 2 anything is closed to freshmen by a friend I met who wants to major in chem regardless of the fact he placed out with AP. They're already full with Sophs and higher.

ok...so.....can we take econ second semester?

they cant just screw over all the business kids

I'm sure you can take Econ second semester since they told us the same thing about English. There may be some spots reserved for the later dates but there are a number of non-freshmen students who take econ as part of their major. If you look on UNC, it shows only one open spot in Econ 101 so if you're not going to the first registration session at the next CTOPS and are the first to ask for econ then you're not going to get it. I wouldn't worry too much though, Econ has got to be offered more than just once a year with all of the intended business majors.

lol agh im already frustrated and i dont even go to ctops until august!!

ah the drawbacks of going to a large public uni...i really thought unc would be better at this than say, michigan state.

rla-- o hey girl u know what i just thought of? we're pogues...dont we get special advising? will this help us at all?

Don't worry. It really doesn't matter what school you attend, unfortunately freshman are ALWAYS at the bottom end of the pecking order. Upperclassmen, especially seniors have limited time remaining to take required classes and if they have changed majors, which many do, they are trying to fulfill those requirements junior and senior year.

It will all work out. GOB you should have plenty of AP credit which will make your life much easier since you will have tested though many of those large hard to get in first year classes.

No special advising at CTOPS because we don't meet our own adviser until school starts.

eadad im freaking out. i wanna double major in business, international stuides, and minor in spanish.

my APs are only, bio, which helps, pysch, euro, apush, gov, (lang is irrelevant because i tested out of both englishes. will any of these others help?

all those darn connections and foundations are so confusing!! :-(

They have changed the curriculum since my S enrolled. I know that many of his APs helped with some of the required perspectives as they were called then. He had bio, chem, both englishes. euro and more..total of 43 hrs.....on the oldplan they satisfied his perspective requirements and then he took other things that worked two ways....major requirements that also satisfied perspectives I believe.

It will all work out.....trust me.

thanks for ur encouragement :) its worrying me because i do want to graduate in 4 years!! :-P the free money runs out after that
