What can one do with an econ degree from say Purdue? Is the school to "low ranked" to get an econ degree from even though it's in the school of management which is high ranked.

mssales, since when is "Purdue" too "low-ranked".

I'll have to tell my Senior Director of Finance (also out of Purdue's business program) at my $14 billion worldwide company that the econ degree from there is not worthwhile.

No, on second thought, I don't think I'll do that.

Look, neither Purdue, nor Purdue's business program is too "low-ranked". Stay with the Econ degree from the business program there. You'll be fine if you get some internships during your pre-junior and pre-senior summer periods to go with the degree.

FWIW, Purdue has the worst economics dept in the big 10, second only to Iowa.

What is your source for this.

http://www.econphd.net/rank/rallec.htm

Ranked 67, not that its bad, still roughly top 50 in the US, just relative to other schools in that confrence....

so you really believe iowa state has a better economics department than iowa?

this rankings are purely showing who publishes and who doesnt, obviously important for a PhD program, but not entirely conculsive of the program.
