Econ at Dartmouth?

I'm from India so don't know too much about college in the US.

I'm looking for an Econ major. I will probably end up double-majoring in Econ and another thing I like. And I really love Dartmouth as a college. However, in terms of reputation, is Dartmouth really supposed to be the place for Econ?

Even if yes, is the Econ major at Dartmouth at par with ones at, let's say, UChicago, Northwestern, Duke, Columbia, Penn?

What are the job placements like? Will it end up taking me on Wall Street? (IBanking/Consultancy industry)

At Dartmouth, economics is the most popular major. As for placement on Wall Street, Dartmouth is right behind HYPSWharton. I would say Dartmouth’s presence on Wall Street is stronger than Chicago’s, Duke’s, and Northwestern’s and about on par with Columbia’s. That said, if your goal is Wall Street, a degree from any of the college’s you listed will probably land you an interview (given that you have good grades and experience), but what you do with it is up to you, regardless of what college you go to.

Also know that some of the universities you listed are not need-blind to international students (e.g. Penn, Northwestern, and probably a couple more on your list). Dartmouth, however, is need-blind, so your ability to pay does not affect your admission even though you are international. (This was gathered from conversations with international students in my dorm about why they chose Dartmouth, a relatively unknown college internationally.)

I am not looking for aid particularly. However, Dartmouth, although need-blind for internationals is still relatively unknown because of very low acceptance rates.

I come from India, and study in New Delhi in what is regarded as the best school in the country. In a class of 1000, on an average 400 students go to college in the US. About 20 of these make it to the Ivies and another 50 to other top colleges. But no one, ever, has made it to Dartmouth.

Yes, a lesser proportion of students applied to Dartmouth, but the acceptance rate at Dartmouth (at least from my high school) remains Zero.

In terms of Wall street placement, I would rank the schools you listed as follows:

Dartmouth

Duke/Columbia

Penn (CAS-Economics)

UChicago/Northwestern

I’ve derived this ranking from my own personal research so I am pretty sure about this.

In my own experience Dartmouth is the strongest school for Wall Street/ finance on your list.
