Dartmouth for economics

How good is Dartmouth for undergraduate economics? Please consider factors such as quality of education, employability( Wall Street, World Bank), and difference in quality with colleges like Harvard and Princeton. Thanks in advance!

look if you are accepted into harvard or princeton then probably you should go there since it may be slightly easier to land interview etc - but you will do very well as Dartmouth grad too - most top recruiters come to Dartmouth

Economics is one of the most popular major at Dartmouth because of the high number of grads that get jobs in consulting/Wall Street after graduation .

Dartmouth is not at a loss for sending people to Wall Street or consulting after graduation (possibly more than Harvard/Princeton, whose grads are more prone to go the PhD/grad school route in economics).

Not sure, but Colgate University might be worth a look.

Thanks guys!

Two prominent Dartmouth graduates that did pretty well in the world of finance–Tim Geithner and Hank Paulson. (Neither, however, majored in economics.) But clearly Dartmouth is known as a place where a ton of grads head to Wall Street.

@Shafkat this is the most recent report by WSO that tracks which are the most targeted schools by Wall Street firms. It might interest you. http://www.businessinsider.com/investment-banking-recruiting-report-biggest-takeaways-2018-2

Dartmouth sends a lot of people on Wall Street, and so do most other Ivies. I think you should consider fit as there are big differences amongst the Ivies.

After a little research, I’d say that Dartmouth is, speaking on a per-capita basis, the college where you are most likely to land a high falutin wall street job from. There are fewer students, but it has about the same amount of recruiters visit as the other top colleges. There’s also quite an “old boys network” of dartmouth alums on wall street, so that helps. Dartmouth’s top employer? Goldman Sachs. And its undergrad economics program is one of the bigger focuses on campus, to say the least.

Dartmouth is huge in Economics. It is the most popular major at Dartmouth. Many top companies such as Goldman, Citi, Bain, Boston Consulting Group, etc recruit directly from Dartmouth and its student organizations.

The Economics major at Dartmouth has one of the lowest GPA averages, however. Pretty sure every Econ class has an enforced B or B+ median, probably due to the sheer amount of students who take Econ classes.

Additionally, no class at Dartmouth is taught by a TA. This means that faculty members know their students well, perhaps more so than at Harvard or Princeton. Because there is no Economics graduate program, all faculty in the Econ department look for their undergraduate students to conduct research on whatever topics they are looking at

Thank you guys so much!
