I am currently an economics major at Binghamton University going into my sophomore year. Going into college i was undecided but I did well and liked Micro/ Macro economics. However, my main concern is that i would like to go into the business world but my gpa is only a 3.1 and I cant get into SOM at Binghamton. I have read that economics majors are competetive with business majors mainly in finance and accounting in terms of the jobs they look for and the salary they receive. I would also eventually want to get an MBA and many people i have spoken to have said that business school makes less of a difference on an undergraduate level and that economics majors typically have an advantage when applying to MBA schools. Also i liked how economics majors had more variety in terms of the jobs they looked for and many employers like the quantitative skills economics majors have over business majors. So my main question is would an economics degree from Binghamton put me on a similiar playing field as most Business majors. Either way after graduating with an economics degree i will seek similiar jobs as business majors would.
