Econ question for current students

Has anyone here had/heard of Gushchina for Economy? This proff isn't on ratemyproffesor.com and i'm just wondering what kindof rep they have. Thanks!

also.... does anyone knwo anything about the class "Mathematics and Poltiics"? Is it hard? Interesting?

no advice....??? i feel like i won't have much control over my classes anyways, based on what i've heard. :-/

adding to this...

all the other microecon courses say "sign up for a discussion", except gushchina and schultz. does that mean we dont have to take a discussion?

when are you registering?

this morning! i'm really nervous its all gonne get messed up and i have no idea whether i should try to get gushchina or not :-/

i just finished registering and it went amazingly well. i knew all the CRNs in advance and all the classes i wanted to take, put them in, and got every class i wanted except for one (but i found a good alternative). good luck to everyone else!

I'm impressed. It went slower for my son yesterday. I wonder if they opened up more sections? He registered at 10 AM yesterday... the first group... got 2 of his 8 choices on the first pass.... played around and added 2 more .... then went out on a limb and found 2 more! so he's registered for 6 classes.... now he has some breathing room, and time to make a final decision. And yes, he is in Math & Politics.

Hey krocket, I was thinking about Gushchina too, but decided on Yezer because I don't mind doing a little extra work if it means I really learn it.

I don't really understand why some sections have discussions and some don't. Or there are other weird differences, like how the UW that I'm taking is only 2 days a week while every other one is 3.

Yeah, ggwu, it's weird. I ended up choosing schultz, it's at 8am (yikes) but only twice a week and no discussion, so we'll see...

i also chose schultz!!! haha i'm gonna DIE at 8 am, but i definitely thought she was the best option. see you next year!

Krocket606, “Math and Politics” is supposed to be really hard and not as fun as it sounds. Everyone I knew who was in it hated it.

Ggwu2010, I admire your bravery. There is a rumor that Yezer is on probation for failing too many students. My roommate is good student, was good at math and worked very hard in his class but only managed to get a C. That being said she learned a whole lot.

The reason why some classes have discussions while others don't is based on the size of the class. Huge lectures break up into smaller groups while smaller classes don't need to.

hova-you seem to have the inside scoop on things. My daughter signed up for Astronomy 1 (to fulfill the GCR) with no professor announced. Do you have any feelings on whether this was a good/bad move? She signed up for Poli Sci 1 with Teitelbaum. I think he's new. Have you heard anything?

researchmaven- I never took Ast 001 but I have heard mixed reviews. Some of my friends loved their class while others were struggling with it. If your daughter is good at math/has taken physics she should be fine. I know that the department designs the class for non-science majors.

I don't know anything off the top of my head about Teitelbaum. I would check ratemyprofessor.com to see if there is any information about them. I took Sodaro for PSC 001, along with about half the student body. It seems to be a right of passage to sit through his class fall semester freshman/sophomore year. His class requires a min. amount of work and is pretty interesting. I would recommend him.
