ECON Transfer Prereqs.

Hi,
I’m transfering out to UCSD in the fall of 2019. As an Economics major, UCSD requires the 2 course math sequence of 20A - 20B with 20C being optional for CCC transfers, but advised to be taken. As my school doesn’t offer the 20C course, I’ve been reading that I wouldn’t be allowed to take any upper division courses until I’ve completed it. Would it seriously be that much of an impediment on my course allowance? What are some options, if any, as to being able to take this course before staring the fall term at UCSD? I plan on studying abroad my senior year, and am horrendously afraid of this preventing/halting me from doing so. I’ve talked to my transfer advising counselor and her only advice was to take it at a different CCC online, however with the main problem relating to that being that the CCC system requires the 20B prereq before being allowed to be taken, meaning I couldn’t take it concurrently to have it transfer before my fall enrollment; I really feel like I’m just being toyed with by people who don’t know how to help me. I know it’s while before I transfer, but asking now is worth a shot.

Hi Vanessa, I have good news for you!!!

I transferred last fall to the UCSD with same major and I was in a very similar situation as you are today, so here is my suggestion.

I would recommend you to take calculus 20C prior to transfer. In fact, you will need it to take Econ 100A, 110A, and 120A during your first quarter (there is no exception). You have 2 options,

  1. take Calc 3 at UCSD during summer (only if you get accepted for Fall).
  2. Take Calc 3 online in Rio Salado college which is in Arizona ($500 per course), this course is self pace you can finish it in 6-8 weeks if you study a lot. You only have to proctor 2 exams and thats all. Feel free to ask me anything you want, Ill help you.
