im thinking about transfering to ucsd as a Economics Major but when i look at the Assist.org page it says:

MATH 20A=MATH 7 Calculus 1
MATH 20B=MATH 8 Calculus 2
MATH 20C=MATH 11 Multivariable Calculus

OR

MATH 10A=MATH 7 Calculus 1
MATH 10B=MATH 8 Calculus 2
MATH 10C=NO COURSE ARTICULATED

so im guessing i have either the choice of taking the MATH 10s or MATH 20s but i will not be able to get to MATH 11 by the time i get to transfer so i was wondering if u guys think it would be ok for me to just take the MATH 10 series of classes instead of 20s but im worried i might not get accepted since i didnt take 10C or would they understand that i couldnt take it at college cuz they didnt offer it? or would the people that take the 20s get accepted before me..thanks

i wasn’t aware that there were different math series. i’m taking calc 1 now and calc 2 in the spring–my counselor said that that should be sufficient–but my counselor isn’t always right.

hmm im just wondering if i can still transfer without having to take Math 11 and just say my college didnt offer MATH 10C? or would it be a bad move

Ryan, take whichever series you want. Just know that without the 20 series you cant take linear algebra at UCSD which is required for graduate studies. The 10 series is fine but they recommend you take the 20 series.

As far as admissions goes, I transferred to UCSD as an econ major without having completed any calculus courses at my community college. UCSD is pretty lax about pre reqs for major which are not impacted. You will be fine, dont worry about it.

thanks alot USMC, so basically both 10 and 20 starts out with calculus 7 and 8 at my college so do i mention i wanna take the 10 series when i apply? also i am a freshman right now and i was wondering when i should do the TAG?

You dont have to mention anything. Since taking calc 7 and 8 at your school allows you to access both the 10 and 20 series, once you get to UCSD you can choose which you want to take. I would suggest you take 20C your first quarter at UCSD, that way you have the option of grad school.

You are in good shape Ryan. They told us at Econ orientation that many transfer students dont have their calculus classes done before they get to UCSD. You will have 2 of them done. Your good man.

Here’s the UCSD TAG website. You dont have to fill out any forms for TAG, just complete IGETC, get a 3.0 gpa, and check the TAG and IGETC boxes on your UC application when you apply.
