Hey guys,

like everyone here Berkeley is my dream school. Also, when it comes to business econ as well as BUS Admin are extremely identical in terms of job opportunities. My question is, for a transfer student who has a GPA of around 3.8 with alot of EC's (internship, president of business club, 6 years of work experience).. what major is easier to get me into UCB? I will be applying for Fall 2012. Thanks!

regardless of your background econ dept is easier for a transfer to get into.

personal Q: if you had a choice to get into berkeley econ or haas, which one would you choose?

Thanks for the reply! Is it significantly easier? At first I thought so, but after reading a few people who were rejected from the econ department with fairly good EC’s and a 3.8 GPA it made me a bit worried. If it were up to me, I would choose Haas. But in the end, I just want to go to Berkeley.

It will definitely be easier to get into Economics. I do a lot of workshops and panels with the transfer center and I can tell you that Haas is very difficult to get into. That said, the main thing that wipes out a large majority of the applicants is failure to follow assist.org when it comes to pre-reqs and courses needed for transfer. One of the Haas admissions officers came to give us some insight to the review process and she said that from the 1,600 (rough estimate) or so that applied for Fall 2010 more than half did not follow the admission requirements. If ANY PART of your application is incomplete or does not follow the plan, they will not even bother to look at your application. The lady who came and spoke to us could not stress this enough. If you truly want to get into Haas, look at assist.org, look at the transfer section of the Haas website, and keep in contact with a Haas admissions officer so they can help you.

After that, the main feature they want to see in your application is leadership skills. To give you a sense, she said that they would value an applicant who was manager of a McDonalds than a president of a business club of 6 people. It seems like they value real world leadership skills as opposed to being the leader of a business club at your community college.

Thanks! For fall 2012 it says the breadth is not required for admittance? does this mean alll I have to do is follow the IGETC and the pre-reqs?

^ I wouldn’t know the answer to that question. I highly recommend contacting one of the Haas admissions people. They claim to be more helpful than the admissions officers who are responsible for admitting l & s students.

Thanks! How does the econ department feel about retaking a UC transfer credit class (intro to business) in which I got a B in and retaking to get an A?

they’ll only consider the grade from the first time you take a course. you can take a course as many times as you want and get a C-> B->A->A+, you’ll still get the C on your transcript.
