econ vs. public policy

Hi! I'm going to be a freshman at Duke next fall, and I'm considering econ and public policy as potential majors. I was wondering if anyone can comment on the major differences between these two. Also, is either of these less math-intensive than the other? Finally, which one is better if I want to do business in the future? Thanks in advance!

It might be enlightening for you to visit the websites of both departments and browse through the course offerings.

Take econ 51 in the fall or spring - you'll need it for both Econ and PPS. Also, a number of people double major in the two, so that's also an option. PPS is definitely less math intensive, seeing as most classes aren't upper level econ/math based. However, PPS 55D tends to weed out a lot of people, so it's not necessarily an easier option.

And I agree with Mallomar - check out the websites for basic info on the majors. And people from all majors go into business, so just find one or two that you enjoy.
