Economics at UCSD or Business Administration at UCR?

What are the pro's and cons of attending both schools. I currently have a 3.77 GPA, but it should reach a 3.8 once this fall and spring comes around. I wanted to know which school will give me an edge in an employers eye. I wanted to work for an investment company, bank or the oil industry. Also what are the school atmosphere's like? The weather? The student body? Faulty, and overall appeal?

I’m pretty sure you’ve already heard some rumors about the area surrounding UCR. Boring, hot, polluted, dry, unmotivated students, etc… However, that doesn’t mean that the school is bad. The school itself is good, the faculty members are truly amazing, and the business program is pretty decent as well. (undergrad ranked #67), but I think UCSD Economics program would edge over UCR business program. Plus, I believe economics major will give better job prospect than a business major. I think the only drawback for going to UCSD is that it may lower your GPA since the school is really competitive (especially for the impacted majors). You don’t want to hurt your GPA if you want to go to grad school or MBA school. Choose wisely. Visit both schools, talk to the students, and the career counselors at both schools and see what they offer and go to a school where you think you will most likely succeed. It’s better to be a big fish in a small pond than to be a small fish in a big pond. But being a big fish in a big pond would be even better if you could do that :)

Everybody is doing BA…And UCR isn’t really all that prestigious even compared to state schools that have reputation for having decent business programs. So UCSD easily.

I know some very successful people who came out of the Economics program at UCSD.

do management science

I wanted to do management science, but I don’t really wanna do all that math. I mean I love math in general, but as anyone know math beyond Calc III just gets murkier and just plain boring.

Also, I know UCSD raised the gpa of TAG to 3.5. So my question is, does TAG guarantee and acceptance to the school or major? Also what is the average gpa for a UCSD econ majors?

Transfer Admission Guarantee guarantees transfer admission.

It does not guarantee you get the major you want.
