I got into UCSD and UCR for fall 2016, my major at ucsd is economics and at ucr is business economics, my GPA right now is 3.8.
My goals for a career is either become a financial analyst or continue to law school.
I have been confused about which school to pick,
UCSD pros: it’s in my home town, ans ranked higher
UCSD cons: bad social life in the campus (i went there it feels dead to me), my GPA would be a 3.4 at UCSD which is not what law schools want, my major as economics only does not qualify me to work as a finical analyst so if i decide to not go with law school i’ll still need to obtain an MBA
UCR pros: i can get a 3.8 GPA at least, i know some people there so it won’t be as dead as UCSD, I was offered to be in the honors program which gives me priority in registration and internships, my major as bus econ prepares me to become a financial analyst without getting a higher education (MBA)
I know UCR is still a UC so i should not expect it to be easy but the facts are facts, it is easier than UCSD
Why do you think your GPA would be a 3.4 at UCSD?
Did you visit UCSD on a weekend? It’s silent as the grave on weekends, but it’s usually a lot more lively. You’ll also meet tons of people living in the Village, which is the most lively community on campus. UCSD’s economics program has an unusually quantitative, math-heavy approach so you might be better prepared for a financial analyst program than you think. Even so, you could minor in business, accounting, or entrepreneurship and innovation at UCSD’s Rady School of Management, which is a much more recognizable name than UCR’s business school with better alumni connections. I’m not necessarily saying to go to UCSD, just providing some perspective on those cons.
@goldencub because i have so many friends and cousins who go there and i see the amount of hours they put to get good grades and i know that i don’t have the motivation to put as much hours as they do
@DoctorP i have been there more than once since it is close to my house, but overall it gives the atmosphere of nerds, i don’t know for me it feels like the students there are robots. My main concern is i wouldn’t like the atmosphere and that will end up affecting my grades. Based on what i have seen it doesn’t have the atmosphere that i was hoping for, i’m going to visit UCR for the second time next week and check it out.
