Economics Undergrad

Hi, today my brother got his early decision acceptance into Columbia for BioMedical Engineering. I am a freshman in high school and I've learned a lot about the admissions process by watching him do it. I, as of right now, hope to become a lawyer and major in Economics for undergrad. I had two questions regarding it.
1. If I want to become a lawyer, is economics a good major?
I want a major that will help me get a high GPA and get into law school but at the same time be a good choice if I wanted to get a job right after undergrad. Are there jobs for economics majors?

My brother completed a three year Science Research program at my school and has no published a paper. This is one of his main pieces of his application and probably helped him get into this BioMedical Engineering program.
If I wanted to major in Economics, what would be an equivalent thing i could do that would help me get into a good program. In other words, Science Research is to BioMedical Engineering Major as ?X? is to Economics Major.

Thanks

You can major in whatever you want for Law. Businesses hire econ graduates to do all kinds of financial analysis.
