Just how important are ec’s to upper tier uc’s like ucsd ucla, and cal
Also, say I’m not very active in ec’s
just a volunteer at the hospital, link crew leader, and key (no position held) and a amaetur photographer, (a hobby) do I stand a chance still I have high grades - 3.96 and a reasonably high sat score 2010, would I be accepted atleast to ucsd?

Sure, why not? They're important, but difficulty of classes and GPA come first. Sat scores and SAT II are big deals, and how you explain yourself through the application is important. Your essays can make or break your app. If one of your ecs really did something for you, write about it. Some people here did everything in the world, and others did just about nothing, so it varies, but unless you have a few things, with exceptional everything else, this person stands at a severe disadvantage to the average applicant (or, more important, acceptee).
