i need help w/ extra curriculars. i want to go to a school like whartons upenn or MIT. (my dream schools) but lately i cannot figure out what to do for extra curriculars. I need ideas on creating useful charitable organizations, but I can't seem do something original. So far I only have boy scouts and lots of volunteering hours. I did try science fair got 3rd place in my bracket which isn't all that. so if you can help? thanks

What grade are you in? Basically, with ECs you have to be involved with things that cater to things that you might consider doing later in life, like if you want to be an engineer for example, get involved on your math team, science olympiad, etc. But most importantly, you have you show a passion for them. That’s what really matters to the adcoms. Make sure you focus and dedicate a lot of your time on 2-3 ECs and it’s also a good idea to have leadership positions in them, they would look favorable on your part.

Oh yeah, starting a club is also a good idea.

so if i am planning on majoring in business/engineering …

i am in 10th grade and my friend and I are creating a fbla club next year but I don’t think that will be enough. + chances of me qual. into nats is pretty slim.

OP if you want to get into Penn you might want to brush up on your grammar before you start looking at extracurriculars.

…ECs are something that you must have passion for. Most colleges can see right through the charade unless you are really passionate about something. With that being said, do things that you enjoy, rather than trying to do certain things to impress colleges.

If you want to major in business or engineering (which I assume are your passions), do something related to that. Start your own business or doing anything math/science related.
