EC's

I am not a member of any club. In fact, I have not been involved EC-wise at my school since 9th grade. I admit that I was a bit lazy after I quit band, but when I got around to find things that interested me, none did. Everything to me (different science clubs, esoteric clubs, debate team, etc...) seemed really tedious. I like constructing things, but not toothpick bridges or tesla coils. I like arguing about topics, but not under a confined setting.

Can anybody suggest something that I can do? I love trying out new sciences and humor...I wanted to start a squirrel club, but there are no squirrels at my school (I just learned that they were all poisoned by the district because they were burrowing under buildings :( ). I've been trying to do a few chemistry experiments, but I'm limited in supplies my parents would let me buy.

Aww, I was wondering about your squirrel club. I’m sorry:( Hmm…well you say you enjoy science, but there already is a science club. Can you elaborate more? Having gone to a school with 50+ clubs(Everyone is trying to start a club for college haha), I should be able to help you. Answer some of these questions:

 • Would you mind working with younger kids?
 • Do you enjoy working with animals?
 • Is there a specific type of science that you are fond of? (Ex: Chemistry, environmental, biology etc.)
 • Is humor a necessity in your club? (Ex: jokes need to be evident…I’m thinking a stand-up club)
 • What kind of topics do you enjoy debating about?
 • What is your favorite subject?
 • What kind of things do you like to construct? (I’m thinking an architect club)
 • Would you want there to be a purpose behind the club(Ex: volunteering/donating) or would you rather have it be more for fun?

These are just some questions that came to mind. I feel that if I can narrow down some of your interests I will be able to assist you better.

Lol, you’re responses aren’t very specific. Hmm…well you said you like working with younger kids, so I’ll tell you about a program done at my old school. Basically, you help younger kids with their science fair projects. You set up meetings and times with the students and you help them decide upon an experiment. You do whatever they want to do, although you can give some suggestions. I felt that that would meet your needs in terms of you enjoying doing random science experiments. After going through meetings, everyone works together and there is always food haha. You then go to the science fair with them and help them demonstrate their experiments. You’re kind of like a mentor to them.

You could do that, or you could start a debate club on a specific issue. (Ex: history club so you debate and talk about history etc.)

You could even start an architect or stand-up comedy club. Each week you could have a different theme or something relevant to that.

Does your school already offer any of these types of programs. Personally, I like the first idea I elaborated on, but that’s just my opinion. Let me know if you need more ideas.
