My school does not have any sort of science club, so I
m looking to start one. I
m aware that many science clubs participate in local/regional/state science fairs and competitions.

The thing is, I
m an international student and so we don
t exactly have any science fairs or competitions available. At my school, many students do IB (including myslef), which requires you to do research and write an extended essay- so I doubt that many students would even participate.

Nevertheless, I would like to organize some sort of after-school science club/organization- my question is, what are some non-science fair related activities that your science club does? if anyone has any other ideas, please tell me!

thanks alot in advance!

My school's science club has more to do with fun than science. Last year their big project was making a 1 person boat entirely out of cardboard and duct tape. While very slow, it actually worked. They posted it online somewhere. If I can find it I will post the link.

At my science club, we don't do anything other than competitions. That really is the goal of most clubs to compete or do service in some way. Well, our robotics club only participates in one competition. The rest of the time they just build stuff like catapults and lasers. Pretty low tech in my opinon.

nihonjin no kanojou ga hoshii desu.

Konichiwa? Although if you're at an international school you might not be japanese.

If I started one, we'd sit around and build towers and bridges all the time. Hold some competitions or something..

On our science team, we do one competition a year, but it is mostly for fun and the experience and to eat pizzza :)

However, earlier in the year, we organized a "Olympiad" in our highschool that pitted homerooms against eachother. It was called Science Daze and we did 10 olympiad-esque events that were fun- write it/do it, bridge building, egg drops, bio scavenger hunt, make a musical instrument. . etc. Each HR had two or three people participate in an event- everyone did something. And depending on how well you did, you got points for your homeroom, with the winner winning a prize! Also, individual winners of events got science extra credit coupons- it was really fun!!!

Also our science team visits places, like this new Bioinformatics building University of Buffalo built. We participated in a summer thing too at Alfred University.

So science clubs can be more than just competitions. Use your imagination and make it fun!
