I have a GPA of 3.06, an act score of 35 and have shown an upward trend with my junior year gpa of 3.3.
I have 2 years of varsity lacrosse, 2 years of JV Football and 1 year of varsity wrestling
I also have over 20 hours spent working in a food pantry along with 2 part time jobs, one being a ski instructor, and the other being a lifeguard.
I was wondering what my chances are for getting into SMU if I applied ED 1, and what else i could do to improve these odds (besides the obvious raising of my gpa)
First of all, an ACT score of 35 is very competitive and you will get a very nice scholarship from that. Second, SMU’s engineering program is not as good as some other top majors in SMU, such as business. I got accepted this year with an ACT score of 31 with low GPA and I applied RD, and I got a scholarship of 80k. So you’ll be fine if SMU is the place you want to go.
@LeeNono does this scholarship is awarded annually? or 80k per the 4 years? Also, I want to know what is the maximum amount of financial aid that can I get from the university? Can I receive full financial aid?
its like 20k a year over 4 years - the engineering school gives out lots of money too. It is a good program look at emis or mechanical/electrical engineering with the biomedical specialization program they are doing some awesome stuff. Actually its all really cool and the class sizes are small. I believe you should get in and get merit aid the gpa will weigh you down but the test score will boost you up talk to mickey saloma in engineering if you don’t get the money you need to be in the engineering school he is their admissions representative and may be able to get you more money. The best part about engineering at smu is all the buildings are fairly new - like 10 years old is the oldest and the class sizes are small. So you could get a great scholarship and be in classes of like 10-15 people thru most of college. Obviously like intro to java and calc will have a fair amount of people but a private school education is something that my friends at state schools can’t come close to matching.
there’s also an early action (non binding) - they consider everyone for scholarships so if you know its where you want to go they still give scholarships
