I have also started a small distributorship business of mine.

I have applied/will be applying to the following colleges/universities-

Connecticut College, USC, University of Miami, UFL, Brandeis University, Vanderbilt University, Bard College, Hamilton College, Middlebury College, Denison University, Franklin and Marshall College, Reed College, Smith College, Vassar College, College of the Holy Cross, HWS Colleges, Centre College, Washington and Lee University, New College of Florida, Dickinson College, Wheaton College (Mass.), Union College (New York), Southwestern University, Occidental College and Wesleyan University.

Which one of these can I get into (realistically)? I would be needing a lot of financial aid.
If I choose to apply under ED 2 to one of these, which should it be? My top choices are- USC, Vanderbilt University, Reed College, Hamilton College, Vassar College, and Wesleyan University.

I shall take the SAT 1 in January. I know it's pretty late, but I wasn't quite left with a choice (due to reasons here and there).

I intend to go for a double major in English and Theatre/Drama.

First of all, third world country is a derogatory term, you could call it a less developed or developing country. Well, you do have a sound GPA, good ECs but you have to get a good SAT score as you are an International student so it might be harder because in a way you might be competing with the Indians, Chinese and Koreans who are super smart. well, good Luck and pls chance me as well

here is my thread
http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/835641-freaking-out-worrying-too-much-pls-do-chance-me-yale-2014-rd.html

Thanks a ton! I genuinely wasn’t aware that “Third World country” is a derogatory term. I did mean " A developing nation". My bad. Thanks for pointing it out.

And I think

I think you should go to Vassar, they mostly generous to writers like you. I would say that Vanderblit is bit too crowded this year because of soo many people in the States applying. So better ED Vassar, if it is possible. Pls chance me!!!

@ajdavid: Yes, I am from India, but unfortunately, I study under the British pattern of education, so I don’t know much about the national boards. Irrespective of the lack of knowledge, I can surely say that you have a fantastic CV! According to me, all the universities you’ve mentioned are “low match” to “safety” for you. Why don’t you try Cornell, WUSTL, CalTech, etc? Btw, which city do you belong to?

@ ivyaspire09: Thanks once again. I have chanced you :)

I wouldn’t recommend Reed as double majoring is hard, and it isn’t as strong in the arts as say Sarah Lawrence, Bard or Vassar. I’d strongly recommend looking at Sarah Lawrence (amazing theatre and writing programmes!) and Bard. If you don’t need aid, Sarah Lawrence would love you (as would most other colleges).

Alright, I shall look into Sarah Lawrence College. Thanks
How about Middlebury College? Is it too high a reach for me? How’s Wesleyan University?

Middlebury is great as well. It would be a reach, yes, but if it interests you enough you should apply. Wesleyan again is amazing in the arts so it’s a great choice. Do you need aid? That’s an important factor. Also, for a lot of these colleges you’ll need to give your SAT IIs, so I hope you’re planning to apply for Spring/Fall 2011 and not Fall 2010.

Okay, I just read you need a lot of financial aid. Sorry for missing out on that. Sadly, everything gets tougher then, but I’m sure you’ll get into an amazing college. Try and look at balancing your list, and coming up with ten colleges that you’d be able to spend four years of your life (and probably a lot more in repaying them) without regret.

ED II is not possible for internationals at Reed; you might check it for other schools.

Thanks. Actually, I’ve applied for admission in Fall '10. I wont be able to take the SAT subject tests, hence I’d have to obviously avoid the colleges (from above) that require SAT IIs. I think Vassar is one.

Can I get into USC?

Did I mention I’ll chance back??? Hehe :)

You are a applying to way too many schools…

Can you select the top 10 fits/matches for me?

It’s really impossible to do that with your SAT score, and if you’re only taking it in january, I’m not even sure if you can apply to most of those… you wouldn’t be able to send your scores until mid february…

Oh, I see. Some, though, have agreed to accept the January SAT score.

Thanks anyway :)
