Today my son's app status says "accepted". Is it remotely possible that they are already posting ED 2 decisions? If we were a week or so away from Jan 15 - I'd believe it, but this seems like it must be an error?

haha if it says “Accepted” I say go throw a party for your son!!

I’d call admissions to be certain, but that sounds like a decision. Your son must be Jesus or something. Congrats. :D

But maybe you could wait a couple days before calling, just to see if any other results might be posted in the same way your son’s was. I’ll write a script to check the website hourly. ;-)

Thanks all. I saw this. My son hasn’t, I haven’t said anything. I figure he’ll either get a letter this week, or it was a mistake and he won’t. But something doesn’t seem “real” yet, and I’d hate to have him be elated then crushed, so I’d rather wait.

Now… if he were to check to status himself and notice it, that would be another thing… but he hasn’t been checking, as he’s been figuring that Jan 5 is the earliest he’d hear. Let’s just say, we are two very different personality types!

Colbye

You are a mean -mom (or dad). You have to tell him!
This is unfair – like not telling your spouse you won the lottery ticket.
It’s not an error-- if it’s an accept, it’s an accept. YAY!
Or casually ask him if he’s checked the CMU webpage lately – but you cannot sit on that info with a poker face! What are you thinking!

Congrats - now go buy him the sweatshirt!

(I don’t really think you’re mean- but I’m never playing poker with you!)

Ha Ha Mom of 2012/2014!

He’s out of town with a friend’s family. Will return tonight or tomorrow. Hopefully the mail will come today, so I don’t have to admit I saw this before him - he really wants to find out first, and I don’t blame him. I wasn’t looking for a decision, just wanted to confirm that the last set of test scores we had sent them had been received.

A piece of me would like for him to not know for another week or so as he does have a fair amount of homework/papers/projects due the week after break and I fear a serious case of senioritis coming on.

And I’m still not as fully convinced as you all are. Will keep you posted.

Accept defeat-- senioritis is inevitable for many ED applicants at all schools.

Again, congrats.

This is an interesting mystery… probably genuine but…
Maybe you should check the page again making sure you are looking at the actual “live” CMU page. Do you know anyone who might want to play a trick on you? Someone could set up your machine to look at static (offline) content that was mocked-up rather than the actual page.
I seem to recall that the text that should appear in that Decision cell of the web page is “Accept” not “Accepted”.

I hope it’s really true (and it would give hope to others for early news!), but double-checking would be a good idea.

If you’re very unsure, you should call admissions. That would clear it up pretty quickly haha

The mystery deepens.

Yes, the cell did say “accept” not “accepted” - I realized that after my first post, but figured it made no difference. He applied to CIT with MCS as a second choice if he were deferred to regular decision. The CIT cell said “accept” and the MCS cell said something like “cancel”. Frankly the “cancel” was what caught my eye. I saw it and wondered if we had been led astray when told he could put down a second choice in case of deferral. It took another minute before I noticed “accept” in the line above.

I can’t imagine someone would have managed to manipulate our machine to show a different page than the actual one. But I suppose anything is possible.

Now for the new twist…today after entering his id code, etc., we get an “error message”. The error message has his name on it - I don’t have it pulled up right now but it says something like “unable to retrieve data for _______”, with his name, b-day, etc. Is anyone else getting that?

Yes, I know I could call… in fact the “error message” says to do just that. But this is his gig, not mine, and he is out of town. So we will have to wait. Actually I will have to wait - he’s not waiting, because he’s away and hasn’t seen any of this.

Nothing in the mail today. If nothing comes over the weekend, and the error message is still there, I’ll have him call on Monday. I don’t think I’ll say anything to him when he gets home, because it is all just too odd, and he doesn’t need to be speculating, worrying, wondering, etc. At least not yet.

I kind of enjoy playing sleuth. We will see what happens. And I’ll keep you all posted.

My hypothesis is that someone forgot to suppress that entry in his record, and they didn’t know how to “fix” it except to hide the whole record, and now you’re getting that error. I think this is a cause for celebration for you!!!

(BTW, my dad did a web page trick like the one I described. He mocked-up a book author’s website and made a co-worker/friend think that the next book in a series, which the friend was desperately awaiting, was finally being released. Now THAT was mean!)

The letter came today. Son was home (thank goodness!) and yes - the news is good! We are all very excited. Hope the rest of the ED2 candidates get good news soon too.
