Hook: Helped kids in a Taiwanese kindergarten learn English for 400+ hours last summer. The owner is naming their 3rd school after me (currently under construction).

I came to U.S. 3 years ago and barely knew any English then. I’m thinking about doing pre-med or major in molecular bio and minor in vocal music. I’m hesitating about applying ED to WUSTL. I like the school, a lot. Since it’s ED, I’ll have to go if I get accepted. But what if I regret in the future that I didn’t even try to apply to other schools like Stanford or Princeton or something. The name’s really not that important to me, but a good education is. I’m not worrying about the education quality at WU, but WU is in the middle of no where!

it's in st. louis.
where i live.

true, it is NO WHERE>

I'm sorry, I didn't mean to offend anyone. St. Louis's not a very exciting city compare to CA or MA though. But maybe I'm wrong, I've never been there myself.

this is not our decision, it is yours, only apply ED if you are SURE you want to go there and only there, just saying that you may regret not applying to other schools delineates that you may in fact not want to apply ED. Also, if you can bump up your SAT I (2100~) and SAT II scores (700+), you really do not need to apply ED (I am guessing you are applying ED for better chances, if not please explain why you are), therefore you wouldn't have to worry about not getting the chance to apply to top tier schools (i.e you mentioned Stanford and Princeton). That's my two cents =)

..btw there is no need for you to post your SAT score of 1200 from eighth grade, it is totally irrelevant to anything, and if anything makes people confused, your SAT score changes SIGNIFICANTLY from middle school to junior year...

Also, your stats in general are great for any top tier school, 8+ APs (assuming you did well on all the ap exams as well) and a 3.9 UW GPA is awesome. You also have great ECs. So yeah, I think in terms of a good education, even though you say "name is not important to you", in the end it's not like a school with a "brand name" won't have good education, generally it will automatically, so yeah.

u didnt offend me lol

Your financial needs need to be a big part of your decision. If you will need financial aid, applying ED anywhere is not a good idea as you will want to compare offers.

xindianx -- I think I'll do what you said and apply ED only if I get below 2100 on SAT. I really have no idea what I'll get on the AP exams and SAT IIs because I havn't taken them yet. Thanks, it helped alot :D

chanman -- That's good. (that I didn't offend you)

zagat -- As of now, I won't be needing finantial aid. And since I'm international, I probably won't be able to get any anyways.

Umm just a word of advice: the Huge US News College book that one can find at almost any bookstore has a chart devoted to where applying early can help most....like there are schools that statistically take more kids from the early decision pool. Im not sure about WUSTL, but check out that book.

I'd also advise Northwestern. Why not apply there? I know someone with similar stats who got in (also recently immigrated, upward grade trend throughout hs) and had an awesome finaid package. They also have a great joint med program with JHU.

That is a drawback of ED. You get some preference in admissions, get your acceptance and the whole process done early, but in exchange you are stuck with that choice.

Ok, here's my new and revised E.C. list. I actually went back and count the # of weeks this time (I was guessing when I created this thread.) I'm a dork :p I also added details to the "minor stuff." By the way, I rounded 31 and 32 down to 30 wk/yr.

*Math Team 9-12 (2 hr/wk, 10wk/yr; Washington State Math Council Math Contest -- 3rd place in state for team problems, and 1st place regional for topical problems)

*International Online Weichi Club 9-12 (founder, 3hrs/wk, 50 wk/yr)

*Vocal Music 9-12 (school has the best choir program in the west coast, choir festavals, trying out for Harvard's choir this summer)

*Church Librarian 10-12 (3 hrs/wk, 40 wk/yr)

*Tech Honor Society 10-12 (1hr/wk, 30wk/yr; webmaster of varsity sports teams webpages, projects' manager, possibly president 11-12)

*Chinese tutor for kids 9-12 (3 hrs/wk, 30wk/yr)

*NHS 11-12 (irregular volunteer projects; 10hr/wk, 3+wk/yr)

*Book club 9-12 (3 hr/wk, 30 wk/yr; Founder + President)

*Movie club 9-12 (3 hr/wk, 30 wk/yr; Vice President 11-12)

The common application only allows spaces for eight ECs, which one should I kick out?

To echo what others have said -- only apply ED if you are certain that the school is your clear #1 choice. It doesn't sound like you're that sure.

hanna -- yeah, maybe I'll be more certain next year.

By the way, which EC should I kick out?

Bump, please help. Which one should I take out?

bumpy bump bump bump.....
which one should I kick out?
