I am a female soon-to-be high school senior and I just visited Wash U. I liked it a lot, and have decided that it is my first choice, but I don't know if it's a good idea to apply ED because it's so hard to get into and my family has a connection at Georgetown. I would really appreciate your opinion!

Recommendation letters-should be fantastic

Well, your SAT and GPA are both borderline. ECs don’t appear to be exceptional. Even if your essays and recs are as great as you claim, your chance at acceptance is not fantastic. Applying ED will help some, and I’d recommend it if WashU is your clear first choice school and finances are not an issue.

I agree with Ryan above. Your scores and grades are not exceptional, but not bad either. Could you take the SAT again and raise the scores some? Where do you stand in your class? Did you interview in the admissions office when you visited? Applying ED is the best way to show demonstrated interest. If finances are not a big issue, and if you have backup schools in mind (in case ED doesn’t work out), then I’d consider applying ED.

Thanks for your honest opinions. I don’t have time to take the SATs again because I’ll be using the approaching SAT date to take my English SAT 2, which I’ve gotten a 720-750 on for multiple mock tests, and maybe a Spanish w/ Listening or Math 1 SAT 2. My class doesn’t do rankings. I did an interview with the admissions office, which went okay I think. I didn’t realize it was going to be so casual so I got a little self-conscious afterwards about how much I talked about myself during the interview. Finances are not an issue. I would normally be super into applying ED, but my connection to Georgetown is a good one. More thoughts?
