ED and merit scholarships

My D will be applying to Davidson. She is considering applying ED. She is very artistic and plans on applying for the art (merit) scholarship. I fully understand that for ED applicants there is no real need for the college to offer merit scholarships as the applicant has already agreed to attend. However, does this mean that they do not ever give merit scholarships to ED applicants or that it just may be more difficult to get one as the RD applicants have the edge?

We don't really need financial aid and won't qualify for need-based aid. But I am all for rewarding excellence and even though we could afford full pay, it would be easier with some help. If we needed aid to get through, she would not apply ED, so that issue is moot. The question is as stated above: Does ED acceptance preclude merit scholarships?

I am currently a student at Davidson, and I did apply ED...I have merit scholarships from the school. I must say that I am not really sure on how they view ED and merit scholarships though...I know it is possible, obviously, but I did feel somewhat precluded from some of the other scholarships. I would say that Davidson is about rewarding merit and if your daughter really wants to come here then she should apply ED and just try her best. Hope that helps in all of its vague glory!
Thanks!
