I'm applying ED to JHU this year and I just wanted to know if there is any preference between using the common app with the supplement or just doing the regular application for Hopkins. Also for the teacher reccomendation I was thinking of asking my teacher from a six week summer course who doesn't know me as well as maybe some of my regular teachers do but specifically wrote on my evaluation that I was the best student in the class. Although the class was only six weeks it was a condensed full year precalc class. Is this a good idea or should I pick someone who really knows me better personally.

Hopkins states that there is no preference between using the common app or their application.

Johns Hopkins has absolutely no preference as to what type of application a student uses. We accept our own application, the Common Application, and the Universal College Application. We do recommend that students apply online, and have ceased printing and mailing applications to prospective students. Review our Application page for additional information:

As far as recommendations, all applicants to Johns Hopkins University are required to have one letter of recommendation from their guidance or college counselor. This should accompany the secondary school report and high school transcript. All applicants are also required to have a second letter of recommendation from an academic teacher. Though not required, it is recommended that the teacher recommendation be from an academic teacher from one's junior or senior year.

Applicants may submit additional letters of recommendation but we request students not submit more than four total letters of recommendation. Additional letters of recommendation can come from anyone, including another teacher, extracurricular advisor, coach, boss, etc.

My recommendation for your situation is to ask your summer teacher to write an additional letter of recommendation, and have your required letters submitted by your guidance counselor and one of your jr or sr year teachers. More on recommendations:

thank you so much. that really clears everything up.

Glad I could be of service.

Recommendation letters can be addressed in any way. The most common:

Dr. John Latting, Dean of Undergraduate Admissions

Admissions Committee

To Whom It May Concern

It doesn't matter to us.

Thank you so much Admissions Daniel.

Your responses and response time is amazing.
