I’m kinda new to this college search thing, so could someone explain what early decision exactly means (when AU’s app and notification dates are), and what you you apply for it (or apply for regular decision) to AU?

Does applying either junior year or senior year give you a better chance?

I don’t know anyone who applies for college during their junior year… unless they are finished high school in three years or they’re beginning the process for a service academy.

But… I want to apply for Early Decision.

At AU, ED is binding. That means that if you get in, you must enroll at AU in the fall. (Exception… if you defer a semester or year)

You apply by November 15 and you are given the decision by December 15.

On Dec 15, one of three things can happen. You can get accepted, rejected, or deferred. If you are deferred, then you get put in the regular decision pile and could be accepted later.

And I believe they use the Common App or you can use their own application.

*Disclaimer… I’m just a high school student who really wants to go to AU. I plan on applying ED. But, with that being said, my info might be completely wrong for whatever reason.

@tennis28 - essentially, Early Decision is a chance for those students who know they want to attend AU to apply and find out earlier if they are admitted! To gain this privilege, they enter into a binding contract with us that says, essentially, if you’re admitted then we expect you to enroll immediately. The Early Decision option is a great way to attract and enroll our most enthusiastic, “AU ready” students who will contribute to our community from day one of their enrollment!

As to your question about applying as a junior or senior, the only time a student would apply before their high school senior year is if they have completed all state requirements for a high school diploma and seek to enter into their college education at an earlier age.
