ED Applicant Thread

I got mine just through the mail, and earlier than I thought I would. It looked like a regular letter, and I was sure it meant that I didn't get in. I had to read it through a couple of times before it registered that I was accepted. It doesn't start off with a big CONGRATULATIONS!!! or anything. I was the first person in my class to hear from a school, it was an amazing moment. But that was this year, for all I know they post it on line now. Better call the admissions office and post their answer here, so that they won't get besieged.

Yay! I got my PIN number and they have received all my materials. Whew, it's all out of my hands now.

I submitted all my stuff.

I didn't get the PIN code yet.

omg they haven't received my sat stuff yet... and i ordered it on collegeboard.com 2 weeks ago!

I know Mid-year grades can't be sent in yet, but is the "final HS Transcript" the one at the end of the year? So neither of those can be expected to be in right now?

Correct. Final HS Transcript will be at the end of the year.

Awesome, thanks. Just wanted to make sure. Does anyone know how many ED applicants are deferred?

Not exactly sure how many ED apps are deferred, but I do know that only about 25 deferrals are eventually admitted to Amherst. If I get deferred I am immediately moving on to plan B.

What is your Plan B?

Plan B.....Bowdoin, Northwestern or U of Chicago regular admission.

Here are some numbers:
Class of 2011:
350 applicants
134 accepted
175 deferred
38 rejected
ED rate: 38%

I couldn't find anything more recent, but that gives you an idea.

i applied ED but im not expecting to get in...itd be kind of nice if i did though haha

Good luck everyone! I'll see you guys next year. Got in last year and deferred. =)

What did you guys think of the supplemental essay? It was definitely the hardest for me out of all the schools I am applying to.

i thought the hard part was really addressing the prompt while also saying something relevant about myself

Well my common app essay was about how mythology and religion are two sides of the same coin so we should be treating them the same... not a good thing? I know they're not religiously affiliated, but any chance that could just set someone off?

I don't imagine it would be a problem, Anonymous. I think they just like to see how students think, how they reveal that in the essay. I don't think they're looking for people they agree with on things, or disagree... just looking for interesting minds.

So, this week...the first time we could conceivably hear anything, right?

im guessing saturday or monday for new englanders

Good thing this week is busy for me, I hate the "waiting" feeling. So close, yet so far. I won't be that upset if I don't get in...I just want to know!
