I'm based in central New York (state), and I'm anticipating hearing back Monday the 15th. Getting more and more impatient.

At least you guys are east coasters...I'm in CA!

well what about me residing in Beijing...i do believe when I receive the letter from Amherst i'll have already sent out all my regular applications...

Correct me if I am wrong lester, but I think foreign applicants get their decisions via email.

I have a persistent, nauseous feeling in my stomach everytime I think of Amherst, college, or just "mail" in general. Anyone else? I have a feeling I won't get in, that's the way things have been going lately, but I'll admit that I'll be more upset if I'm deferred. If I wanted to be evaluated RD, I would have applied RD!

I'm with PinkSummer. I really don't think I'll get in, but the deferral would make it even worse.

After all this impatient waiting, the last thing I want is, "We're not sure. Give us another few months and we might let you know."

i agree...if im going to be rejected i want to be rejected now not in april. i havent heard from any colleges yet, i just want this whole process to be over with

Could agree with you guys more. Ugh. I have a question though. If you were deferred from Amherst ED and then accepted RD, would you still go?

The only option I think anyone has, if we are waitlisted, is to move on to plan B and apply rd to other schools....then, if anyone of us happens to be one of the lucky 25 or 30 waitlisted students who are accepted in April we either accept Amherst or go with our plan B option. And that decision would have to wait until we see which of the Plan B colleges accept us.

well i have been waiting for the result for a week... a week of anxiety and worry, while I have to on the other hand prepare for the other essays and forms...
i do wish i could be accepted. i've been keen on Amherst since my Sophomore year...

Does anyone know if Amherst contacts applicants high school counselors for progress report and an update on applicant's grades? If so, this may give us an idea of who might be in line for acceptance because it wouldn't make any sense to contact a students high school if they were not being considered for acceptance. Perhaps if we just asked our guidance counselors if they have heard anything from Amherst...do you think?

to phil, i do believe they will contact high school counselors if there are some special circumstances to be clearified or something that they are really interested in, for example special family backgrounds, a sudden drop in GPAs...again this is my opinion.
and i think they will not pre-notify our counselors about the Early results.

I bleed purple and white (as I said in a previous post, haha... it's my favorite saying ;]) but I would be kind of lost if I were waitlisted. Amherst has ALWAYS been my first choice... number one in every respect. But I'm not sure I would go if I weren't accepted this fall. I'm not saying that being waitlisted is a slap in the face (after all, this is Amherst College, one of the most competitive in the world!) but if they don't want me as much as I want them, my opinion is that we're not a good match. If I wanted to be evaluated RD, I would have applied then. Blah. That felt good.

That being said, if I'm admitted, I'll bring some spirit. Go Jeffs!

I forgot to mention that I'm pretty sure I'll be waitlisted. LOST

Yeah, I feel similarly to PinkSummer09 in regard to deferral. I mean...I chose them ED. If they don't choose me, then obviously there was a reason.

i want to feel like my school wants me....if i get deferred itd be like they were unsure about me and thatd bother me

Definitely agree.

So we're definitely hearing the 15th right?

I am freaking out. And I don't even know why, because I'm about 80% sure I'll be deferred. But I still want to know!! I don't wanna wait a week... :(

wow. im not at all expecting to get in either, but no one on these threads seem to have a positive outlook on Amherst's ED (it's like 40%).

I don't think that a deferal means that you are probably going to be rejected (unlike a waitlist). Since Amherst says that a maximum of 30% of applicants will make up the incoming class, they could defer some kids and accept them RD to kept the percentage down.

I know that USC accepts less kids for its freshman class, but then lets a bunch of transfers in, only because it wants to keep a low admission rate statistic so it can move up the US News rankings.

That's horrible! I view deferrals as pretty much neutral. They'll just be tossed in with RD and whatever happens, happens.
