As a side note, during my sophomore year, i decided to take Chinese III (adn Chinese IV the next year), after having taken Spanish I and II. I wasnt trying to take it easy or anything because when i dropped out of Spanish III H, i had an A avg.
When i visited China durign teh summer after my freshman year, I suddenly becamse really enthusiastic about asian culture. I realized that learning Chinese was much more important to me thatn learning Spanish, and not to mention, more enjoyable too. Besides, my chinese skills werent that great. Sure, being that i am Chinese, i can speak and listen, but i can barely read or write. Therefore, i wanted to improve upon it so i would be able to communicate more eloquently and efficiently wiht my relatives in China.
i felt like that ive made the right decision, b/c i was following my interests, and not "what looks good on college apps." but still, out of curiousity i was wondering if this change in foreign language might hurt my chances. Will Rice see me as a "quitter" because i didnt take Spanish all the way up to 4? ...but wouldnt takign swimming all 4 years erase that thought from the adcom's mind, since it shows that i can be passionate about something that i really like?

Bro, I don't know if you'll get in or not but you sure as hell look qualified.

lol, thanks. anymore comments?

Don't apply Early decison because you will trash my very small chance of getting in!!! Looks like you are qualified. Your greatest weakness is that tons of people apply from Texas to Rice so you are really competeting aginst the very very best in your state. Of course you are the very best so it does not really matter. People on this site really can't tell you though what your chances are. Rice might decide they want a greater diversity and take someone that has a more unique background and lower stats. You just don't know. Since you are from Texas maybe you could tell me how good the UT system is. Is it anything compared to University of California system which is awesome? I know our Alaska schools are really bad so I have to find some out of state ones to go to.

pilebay.

im not really familiar with the California system, but i have heard a lot about UT, since my dad went there for grad school. according to my dad, the professors there are really educated, but most of the introductory classes are taught by TAs. But taht doesnt mean that the education offered there is not good. Many ppl otu of UT became really really successful. Michael Del is an example. Also, i know a business major who went to UT for undergrad and got accepted to Baylor Med School (ranked 13 in the nation, i think). Right now, he is one of the most important ppl at a very renowned hospital. I think he's in charge of the cardiovascular department or something.

Also, it all depends on wat u want to major in. I've heard taht the engineering department is very good. Furthermore, Maycomb business school is one of the tops in the nation...and for its tuition, you're getting one of the most unbeatable deals there is to offer.

Finally, the campus, as u may have heard, is extremely big. as a result, the social life there is great. Besides, some of my friends who are currently enrolled there say that the course curriculum is not that tough (of course this is all relative), so the atmoshphere there is pretty laid back. Moreover, most of the facilities are fairly new, makgin teh lifestyle there relatively comfortable.

if u dont mind the heat, then Austin is a really nice place to live. =]

lol and did i mention, the tuition there is very cheap for the education offered?

Thanks so much. The main reason that I was looking at the UT system was because the tuition was really reasonable. I know that the UC system can not be beat yet it is about $25,000 a year for out of state tuition. University of Washington which is also excellent is also about $20,000 or so. The main reason that I am concerned about UT is because I don't think that they have a great humanitites department which is what I plan on majoring in. Anyway maybe I will actually get into Rice ED that is what I am hoping. Thanks again for the info.
