ED decisions?

Rebeccake - ours didn't have any housing info either. I don't know when that comes (any current parents remeber?) but I have heard that the college does an exceptional job of matching roomates. That is, as long as the kids put real answers not what they wish was true. My freshman roomate was a disaster! Although it did provide some great fodder for freshman roomate stories when I went to grad school.....

I think our girls have connected on the facebook group - both bio/psych and music

did someone say bio + music?

Welcome to Flow in Games

best game ever.

^^uhoh, that seems addictive...

Yes -- that's her on Facebook (I'm also on - are you?).
My freshman roommate was also a disaster (looooong time ago) but we never had a questionnaire to fill out (big state school). My other daughter goes to Macalester and was matched beautifully -- makes me think the small liberal arts schools do a better job at this. Exciting, isn't it?

Housing stuff comes later. IIRC, my S filled out a questionnaire in the spring or early summer and then got his housing and roommate assignment in August. He and his freshman roommate got along great.

My daughter's freshman roommate was her diametric opposite--ultra-conservative and extremely religious. I'm not sure about Carleton's rationale that put those two girls together, but they ended up getting along fine. Both picked their own roommates this year.

Just got in from Newton!

Congrats photochopper! If you're on FB, join that group and have yr parents join the parent one if they're facebooked.

Enjoy your holidays!

My daughter was in a triple her freshman year. They aren't still roommates, but they are definitely still good friends. It will be interesting to see if the Watson triples will revert to doubles this fall with the opening of the new dorms.

I feel a little odd writing this post, having read all the 4.0's and ACT 35 and SAT 800's posted above by other accepted applicants. But I will, nonetheless, in the hopes of providing my meager input to the future prospective students who may be searching through threads and looking to be chanced.
My GPA =3.0(unweighted) 3.6(weighted)
My SUBMITTED ACT score =31.
Class rank = right in the middle of my class
Needless to say, my stats are less than outstanding, and it's actually quite funny how low my GPA is.
I'm not a URM, a legacy, or an athlete. I'm just a regular white girl living in suburbs of Chicago. So yall have hope, children.

Hahaha good point. Just goes to show there are tons of factors in getting into a college, and it's not always who has the highest stats and the most activities (not to shut down previous posters who have incredible resumes, just stressing how you never really know)

and as an aside to starbucks08, I'm pretty confident it was my lucky Obama shirt that got me accepted today.

Starbucks, my stats looked alot more like yours. D must get it from her dad, LOL.

At my 25th reunion several of us talked about how we got to Carleton. I figured it was my 2 older siblings, a black student was confident that he got in as a URM, a girl from Ct felt that her hook was geography. Noone thought it was on their own merit; Carls are pretty unpretentious. Whatever your current stats, a group of discerning people are confident that you belong at Carleton, lucky shirt or not:)

Congrats

starbucks, i'm really glad you posted your stats! i had been getting really discouraged about mine looking at all the 800s/4.0s...

starbucks, let's hope they've got room for another lil white girl from chicago come RD time...

Of course! Obama is so dope, and thanks for the kind words, bingle. Hollylove and magneticpoet, I have no doubt that you guys will do well, and I will cross my fingers we can all meet in Northfield next yr and wish you the best of luck! ps. I just can't believe some of these people here will actually be my classmates, possibly even floormates/roommates?! sooo unreal.

I'm excited. Everyone here and in the Facebook group seems so nice, so interesting. I can't wait to meet them for real!

Anyone thinking about going to Accepted Student Weekend in the spring? For me, it probably depends on my dad's ability to swing some frequent flyer miles around, but I'd love to get back on campus (especially when the weather is --hopefully-- good).

Accepted Student Weekends are April 9-11 and April 16-18.

CR:790 M: 800 W:800 (Total: 2390)
Math IIC: 800
Chem: 760
Latin: 780
Spanish: 660
GPA and Rank: N/A school doesn't calculate

EC: Varsity Lax (4 yrs), Varisty soccer(4 yrs), Community Services, School Proctor, that's pretty much it...

Others: I decided to take a year off to basically apply to Carleton. Turned out to be the best choice, very worth it. I was debating between Middlebury and Carleton really hard, but I chose Carl in the last minute.

Woo hooooo Go Knights!!

Hollylove, good luck with ED2 and congrats to all the accepted ED1's!

Starbucks IS a good example of why ED (1 or 2) can SO work to your advantage admissions-wise. On a smaller campus like Carleton's, putting together a student body that is there because they really, really want to be there is critical and can overcome weaknesses in a transcript. There's no better way to prove your love to an admissions committee than applying ED.

The happiness Carls have/have had in their undergrad years is a testament to the school's success putting together classes that "share the love."

1190 - any suggestions on how to demonstrate that kind of interest in the RD pile? My parents have firmly put their foot down regarding binding... things. Otherwise I'd have applied a month ago.
