congrats dude! do you mind writing your other stats and extra curricular involvement? Why do you think you got in with your gpa?
Hi, if anyone is still responding to posts from this site , would you mind posting your stats that got you in ed 1 or ed 2 . My son is planning on applying ed , and want to b ER a sense of his chances . His grades are fantastic , taking highest level classes , enough extra curriculars ,'should have good recommendations , but his scores are not the best . He has also shown a lot of interest which I know is helpful . Thanks for any responses !
@maddiec ED1 is 89% acceptance rate, so I would say his chances are excellent. ED2 is low 80% which the AU rep explained that it was lower because they get more unqualified applicants who got turned down by their ED1. As for his test score it is in their 3rd tier of criteria and you can go test optional. All of the other things you mentioned above are given much more weight. I would think about applying test optional if your son’s score falls below the 25% - 1210 for SAT and 27 for ACT. AU can keep their middle 50% test scores high by having kids go test optional. You can always have him ask his AU rep what they would recommend based on his score. I would focus on his essays both the common app one and the additional optional essays. The AU admissions counselor said it’s a huge mistake not to complete these additional essays. I think they look for fit in the essays as well as writing skills. Best of luck to you!
@sahmkc . Thanks so much for your response . His act score was a 26 and sat was a 1200. So he falls right below the range . Not sure if it would hurt him to submit scores as everything else is above … gpa 4.45 , rank 26 out of 378( top 6 %), ib and ap classes . He was just up there on Monday and met with an admission rep for a non evaluative interview . He has shown a lot of interest . So should he submit scores or maybe ask admission rep ( there is no official one for Virginia where we live ) but maybe the guy he me with could answer .
Thanks again !!
@sahmkc . Also , are u a student there ? If so , what year and have you enjoyed your time ? Thanks
@maddiec - I am the mom of another ED1 applicant. We have visited twice - a regular tour and a preview day. We are from Missouri and have an AU Rep that my son has been keeping in contact with. I have done a ton of research as this is my son’s top choice school (obviously - lol). Your son has the top 3 criteria that they look at - Interest, GPA & Rigor. Class rank is not considered - in our information session the Admissions Officer told us that many parents get pretty heated over it that. Scores are in their 3rd tier of admissions criteria as only considered, but I would contact the rep he spoke with and ask their opinion on whether to submit or not. Is the GPA on a 5 point scale? If so that is great because they only take 5.0 scale weighted GPA’s. All other scales are converted to a 4.0 scale. From what I have gathered here on the CC your essays (common app & supplemental AU) are important to the Admissions team and some acceptance letters even referenced or commented on things people wrote their essay. Feel free to pm me with any questions! We are in the same boat with sons who “know” where they want to go! I think it might be easier if they were floating between colleges like so many of DS’s friends.
@sahmkc . That’s great to know someone in the same boat . What does your son hope to major in ? What is it about AU that he really likes . Had he considered other schools ? My son needs to start working on his essay and also getting his recommendations once school starts ( we go back after Labor Day ) . And yes , he should proabanly contact the admissions rep and get his feedback . And yes , his gpa is on a 5 point scale . Wish his scores were consistent with his grades . I wish you and your son luck with the whole process and senior year !!
